Meet DJ Ciza, real names Seth Mwalye, our Man Crush Monday

DJ Ciza has built his own brand not just as a DJ, but a bonafide entertainer. He describes himself as a versatile DJ. “Being knowledgeable about several genres, I believe it puts me in a position where I never run out of energy when I’m behind the decks or microphone,” he quips.

As he releases his latest music video titled ‘Karekye’ featuring Cosign Yenze  and Viper Ranking, the 28-year-old I.T. graduate talks to us about what makes him different and the reasoning behind DJs producing their own songs.

Who is DJ Ciza?

DJ Ciza is an entertainer, a DJ to be specific. My real name is Seth Mwalye. I was born on 26th of January 1992. You can also call me ‘The Real Crowd Pleazer’, because that’s exactly what I do.

Falling in love with Deejaying

I got interested in deejaying at the tender age of 15 as I listened to influential DJ brands of that time. I guess I realized very early that I didn’t want to just be a DJ, but an entertainer.

Starting out

I’m a self-taught DJ, so basically everything I know has been a lesson I’ve had on my own. I went from from being a rookie to an up-and-coming DJ in under 18 months. This happened as I discovered this gift that I had of entertaining people. A year later, I ventured into the nightclub scene with a gig at one of Kampala’s top nightclubs, which introduced me to larger audiences and thus more exposure. In the same year, I was spotted by one of Kampala’s freshest FM stations (Radio City 97Fm), where I currently hold 3 weekly deejay shows whose reception from listeners has been continuously positive over a combined 5 years.

Inspiration

2012 was such a pivotal year for me! That’s the year when I started following lots of the DJs who have had a huge influence on my career. From DJ Bushbaby, DJ Alex, DJ Alberto to DJ Pinye and more. My dream was be like these guys someday! Several years down the road, I’m proud that I’ve been able to craft a distinct and unique deejaying style of my own.

School

I hold a Bachelors Of Science Degree in I.T. Did I practice it? Yes, but for a little while. Music being my first love eventually took over.

His style

I’ve got my my biases but I’m generally an open format DJ (everything goes). Being knowledgeable about several genres, I believe it puts me in a position where I never run out of energy when I’m behind the decks or microphone

DJs producing songs

Part of my job description is to select the best tunes for my listeners or party goers. Creating my own music comes along as a unique flavour to the entertainment I’m offering. It’s also an opportunity for me as a DJ to give young artists a chance to access the platform that I have. Some of the songs I’ve done include; Bad Energy ft. Cosign Yenze, Gukubira Wa ft. Nutty Neithan and No Competition ft. Mugaba.

Today we have released Karekye ft. Cosign Yenze & Vyper Ranking, which has such an epic sound.
