Ngobi Joshua and Nakisekka Faridah, both civil engineers, have known each other for close to seven years. They met at Makerere University in 2014. The two tied the knot at All saints Cathedral on 18th January, 2020 and were lucky to have their wedding before the ban on social gatherings.
The Engagement
We met at Makerere University in 2014 and have known each other close to seven years. He proposed later on at kyangabi crater resort in June last year. It was a beautiful surprise!
The Planning
We effectively planned for the wedding between June (after my engagement) and December. We majorly had family on board and the friends came in later to help after we launched the wedding in October.
Kwanjula
We had approximately 300 guests at the event. Bloven Décor beautied our space. A friend did my hair makeup was by Dazzle_me_makeup. My Auntie did the main cake and Bloven_events did the side cakes. My highlight of the day was My dress. I picked out my colour choices and tailored the gomesi’s and dress. My husband picked out his Kanzu and suit as well.
The wedding
It started with a bridal shower thrown by my friends at Kololo Courts Hotel. It was such a fabulous affair.
For the wedding reception, we hosted approx. 450 guests at Silver Springs Hotel, Kisakye hall which was dazzled by Giselda sensation. They did amazing on the décor. Our Theme colours were white and silver, I guess I love white that’s why we had to have it.
The outfits
I chose a body-hugging (mermaid) gown because I felt it would flatter me best as compared to a Cinderella shape. I am not certain about the the costs because the gown was a gift from my mother. For the entourage, my matron and I chose the colours and style. Joshua had his suit tailored at Parple Rain.
(Oh! Don’t we just love mothers?)
Your changing gown was goals, who designed it?
My changing dress was tailored by Yasmin K.
Salon
Make up for the bride and entourage was done by Shillat_Makeup and hair by Jefferson salon. For the men, hair was done by Mart barber.
(This is a dream team!)
Wow moment
The Décor and the saxophonist who played great music. In order to cater to our elderly guests, we hired traditional dancers to spice up the entertainment.
Challenges
Prices fluctuations and service providers were pricy since it was around the peak/festive season.
Did you attend any wedding shows?
We attended the annual wedding expo at UMA to meet and talk to various service providers.
The cake?
It was baked by Sarah Cakes. It was a rich fruit cake with chocolate, coconut, blueberry and butter scotch flavours.
(I promised myself to taste butter scotch. Seems lots of brides are going for it a lot)
Favourite details and how you came up with them;
Most of the wedding details I came up with were inspirations from Weddingnaija and Pinterest.
Anything you would change?
I would change the gentleman we hired for music, his service was poorly done!
Wedding day nerves?
I wasn’t nervous surprisingly
(Huh, you are one in 10000 brides)
Song for the first dance?
The Vow by Tim Dokolo
(Lots of couples are making this a choice. We love the story behind the lyrics)
Photo session:
We had the photo session with First Class Media at Pearl of Africa.
Advice to future grooms/brides:
- It’s never too early to start planning once you’re engaged, it cuts down on the pressure!
- Consult with friends regarding their experiences with any service provider before you rush to book them for your big day, some disappoint despite their good work!
