The 15 Most Stylish Ugandan Music Videos of 2018 So Far

By  |

Gone are the days when music videos had little or no style impact. Lately, the artistry and style statements invested in a music video greatly impact the performance of the song on the chats. Like A Pass would say, most Ugandans don’t listen to songs, they ‘watch them’.

We’re in July, and 2018 has already served us with some really stylish projects. Below is a list of 15 music videos that have made strong style statements.

  1. Tubikole – Fik Fameica ft. Vinka

Don’t we all love a colourful music video? There’s no doubt that Fik Fameica and Vinka are two of the most stylish artistes in Uganda. The two stars bring lots of colour to our eyes; Fameica wears a green reflector jacket as Vinka gets bold and playful with her hair.

  1. Rema and Ykee Benda – Whistle

This video is a huge fashion statement. First and foremost, we love how funky Ykee Benda looked in his lime green shorts, playful socks, oversized jacket and oval shaped gold rim glasses. Later on in the video, he  changes into a pair of African print shorts with a matching vest. We also applaud Rema Namakula for going out of her comfort zone.

  1. Pull Up – Eddy Kenzo ft. Harmonize

We love how this music video tries to fuse two different styles together. Eddy Kenzo and Harmonize look urban cool while their dancers channel African finesse.

  1. Chips na Ketchup – Vinka

We love  the vintage vibe of this video.

  1. Sukuma – B2C

We were pleasantly elated to see the B2C boys looking dapper as we had grown accustomed to seeing them in jeans and t-shirts. We love the plaid navy blue suit worn by Delivado Julio, the green suit worn by Bobby Lash, and the dark brown suit worn by Mr. Lee.

  1. Nakikute – Fefe Busi ft. Vip Jemo

This is not your average all white video. We love how new kid on the block Vip Jemo added a grey formal waistcoat (vest) to his all white outfit. This adds much needed contrast to his outfit and also makes him standout much more than everybody else in the video. The song is catchy too.

  1. Born to win – Fik fameica

Not so many guys can wear pink and smoothly get away with it. We love the white t-shirt, white ripped jeans and the pink jacket. Well done Fik!

  1. Gukuba – Irene Ntale

We must commend Irene’s makeup artist for the job well done. Her makeup is very minimal yet it does her justice. We also love that simple yet eye catching colorful maxi dress worn with a flower crown. Less is definitely more.

  1. Crippin’ – Maurice Kirya

Everything Maurice Kirya invested in this music video paid off in equal measure. The raw feel of this video is what makes it standout.

  1. Musaayi – Leila Kayondo

The internet isn’t impressed that Leila Kayondo was nominated for an AFRIMMA award. This music video should be the reason she landed that spot. The set design, fashion choices and picturesque set of the music video really deserve a nod. Good luck Leila.

  1. Very Well – DJ Slick Stuart & DJ Roja ft King Saha

This music video is a wonderful ode to the beauty of African prints, complete with fashion models and contemporary dancers.

  1. Mummy – A Pass

Our friends at Glitz by Nalu had a complete fashion show in this music video. As with everything ‘Glitz by Nalu’, this means lots of sequins, glitter and pops of colour. A Pass sports some noteworthy dapper looks too.

  1. Munyiiza – Sheebah & Tip Swizzy

Sheebah knows when to make a style statement, and she did exactly that in this music video.

  1. Love Doctor – Vinka

Every one of Vinka’s music videos is a complete style statement. Styled by Solomon Tazibone, this particular video is all the colour we need. The standout look for me is the tiered red outfit.

  1. Mummy Yo – Sheebah

This is arguably the most stylish music video of the year so far. Sheebah takes us back to the 1920’s with a stylish dance party. What makes this project special is the fact that lots of attention was paid to every little detail in the video. Most Uganda music videos pay little attention to extras. On this project, Sheebah’s cohorts are immaculately in sync with the vintage setting of the video. Watch below.
