Enid Mirembe is the Founder of the Rolex Festival and the CEO of the Rolex Initiative. She’s also our Woman Crush this Wednesday. Enid goes beyond that, she currently is trying her hand at the political playground, eyeing a seat in Parliament as Bugiri’s Woman representative. Today we delve into the ex-beauty queen’s journey and how she intends to continue stretching a hand out to help the people of her home area.

What does your current role entail?
Over seeing everything and making sure we are still on the right track

Take us through your career journey from first job to current
S.6 Vacation, I worked at Sylvia Owori store as a sales executive, Clapper House as a special Admin, Ministry of Tourism as a youth Rep State ministers office, Rolex Initiative as CEO, Rolex yo as manager

Tell us about your professional training.
I did Bachelor of Arts MUK i.e Communication skills, English Language and Admin Law and Entrepreneurship.

What was your first job? What did you learn from it?
I was a sales executive at Sylvia Owori store Garden City in my S6 vacation.
I learnt that actually that persistence is the only way to breakthrough. Most times we can tend to do things and give up because we want quick success. This goes back to my then boss Sylvia Owori. Her history is amazing.

What’s your best job experience so far?
I would say PR. Relating with people.
My interpersonal communication is good.

What’s the worst career advice you have ever taken?
Someone told me not to rush, that I should wait for the right time, and later I saw how I had wasted a chance.
Whatever we want to do we should do immediately because time will not wait.

What’s the career/mantra you swear by?
I believe in God, prosperity and a good life.
From the Book Black Mamba those who studied Literature in A’ level know what am talking about…though in black mamba it meant something else..I use it for the good and I add God.

How was the idea of Rolex Festival birthed?
I was Miss Tourism 2015 – 16 so I needed a project in my reign… I thought culinary tourism would be a good idea. By this, I was looking at food that will unite us as a country, given that we have so many tribes so choosing to promote a certain local food would cause trouble with other tribes.

So celebrating Rolex as a Ugandan meal was key and adding value to it would actually promote the country.
When you research and read about food you will know that food is a big sector in the world and global destinations are renowned for their food i.e pizza and pasta for Italy, wine culture for Europe, hotdogs and burgers for USA, noodles for China, sushi for Japan wugali for Kenya.
So now we have Rolex for Uganda! *pats myself on the back😇😌*

What are some of the successes of the project?
The project has grown in multitudes and also we have come as far as 5th edition this year which will be scientific or Digital because of the pandemic….details are on all our pages… Rolex Festival Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, we shall be streaming live every Saturday and Sunday at 5pm

We also graduated from Uganda Museum grounds to Cricket Oval.

What then prompts you to join politics? What do you intend to achieve with it?
I have been a leader from Primary School; I was a prefect for 2 good years, a class coordinator at Makerere… and so many friends who are in Parliament, so they inspire me to actually go and do some work back home for the women and youth.
I want to be their voice because there are many areas they have not been helped. I want to advocate for free education and free health.
Some day, I dream to see myself as the minister of Tourism, Wildlife and antiquities or Minister of Gender Labour and Social Development. Very soon politics will be taken over by the Youth…it’s time for the youth to take charge.

How do you choose what you wear to work? Do you have particular colours or silhouettes you gravitate towards?
It’s random… I just move to my wardrobe and choose, otherwise I will spend the whole day trying on clothes.

Away from work, what’s your personal style like?
Lol… well, I don’t love bright colours because I’m dark-skinned. So I will wear soft colours most of the time because of the kind of work I do.

Let’s talk makeup, what kind of makeup do you wear to work?
Subtle

How do you use fashion to your advantage as a go about with your work?
Well…for me fashion is being decent enough and comfortable. That is the most important thing I guess.
