Today, there is a body shape most women desire; snatched waist, flat tummy and a big round bump. As some women opt to go under the knife to attain this body, others like Nalule Deborah are helping others achieve this goal in a healthy and natural way.

Her Story

Born and raised in Kampala, Nalule was always a chubby child. As a teenager, she often wondered why people thought she was older than her peers. She sadly recalls, “I was bullied a lot. I was also often made fun of on the streets especially by boda boda men and sometimes even people in my inner circle.”

There were also other challenges; she always had trouble choosing clothes to wear, and as if that was not enough, “I was always made to feel like I wasn’t beautiful enough,” she recounts.

Nalule’s transformation

Embarking on a weightloss journey for her was never intentional. “I didn’t think I would ever lose weight. Trying to eat healthy and living a clean lifestyle as a way of losing weight was only a trial,” she recalls, “one I was convinced would never work just like the slimming teas, and pills I had been sold many times.”

However, 6 years ago, after chancing upon a friend’s post on Instagram sharing their experience of losing close to 30 kg by just eating healthy and exercising, she decided to give it a serious trial. “I was intrigued to give it a shot, I began by changing my entire lifestyle. I went from eating junk to eating only local food. I ceased taking sugar and soda, replacing the urge for all these with fruits and vegetables.

I embarked on an active lifestyle thus exercising almost daily,” she recalls. Indeed, her consistency and commitment paid off as 5 months later, she had lost 32kg. “I’ve never looked back. It was a whole lifestyle change that helped me get to the physical and mental state I desired. And, I’m determined to help other people do the same.”

Nalule describes herself as the ultimate Weight Loss coach. “I help people lose weight by teaching them how to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Everything is done through improving our eating habits and exercising,” she says. So far, 200 lives have been transformed through her program.

“I start by assessing and understanding where their needs lie. Then we agree on how long the client would like to work with me. I charge based on how long the program runs. Over the next many days, I guide them on what to do and what to eat. Fees can be a one time payment, or done in instalments depending,” she explains.

The DebbieFit weightloss program entails;

  1. Balanced diet meal plans that give her clients an overview of how they should eat and the healthy food options.
  2. Workout routines/videos that guide clients on how to exercise while in the comfort of their homes.
  3. Daily monitoring to make sure they are on track, meaning clients are accountable to her daily about their meals, workouts and progress.

Everyone is trying to have the perfect body, when I quiz her on what this body is she chuckles. “According to me, a perfect body is a healthy one. And a healthy body is one that eats healthy and exercises regularly.”

As many wait to land a gym membership in order to exercise, Nalule believes that workingout from home is just as effective. “Some, if not all effective exercises can be done in the comfort of your home or neighbourhood.”

Not everyone has access to a gym, and according to Nalule, you may not need it after all. “You can walk or jog and do so much more without accessing a gym,” she says. “If you are trying to lose weight, what you should focus on mostly is eating healthy and exercising often.” According to her, a combination of these two plays is the only answer.

“In other words, don’t exercise so hard in the evening only to pass by KFC as you’re heading home.

While the process seems physically draining, Nalule believes it is as mental as it is physical, “It all starts in the mind. What your mind perceives is what the body will express. A weight loss journey is mental battle. You have to prepare your mind to go through it till the end,” she advises.
“But once you have mastered the plan, you gain more than just losing weight. Other benefits include; boosting your confidence in more ways than one, attaining general discipline and commitment, improving your sex life, balancing your body hormones, clearing skin complications, and most importantly, boosting your immunity plus getting those heart related illnesses away,” she explains.

Lastly, for busy bodies, Nalule advises that, “There is no way around it, you have to be active for at least 30 minutes daily. If you can’t be active then you will pay hospital bills for an illness you could have avoided if you had made the choice to be active.”
