Holding a Scientific Wedding Was a Blessing in Disguise – Joshua & Florence!

By  |

Joshua Laban Musinguzi and Florence Elizabeth Musinguzi tied the knot on the 25th of July 2020 before hosting a small and intimate reception at Serena Hotel in Kampala.

Meeting

We met through a mutual friend about five years ago at a meet up, we interacted for a few months and parted ways. We met again in 2018 and resumed dating. Like they say, the rest is history.

Joshua: I was attracted to her personality. She is full of charisma and keeps me on my toes. She’s also a mother to my very handsome boy and that attracts me to her even more.

Florence: He was a down to earth intelligent young man and full of humor.

Proposal

We didn’t have a proposal exactly like we may all know it. I bent on one knee during our kukyala which was a year ago. So we had no pre-planned proposal.

The functions

We held the giveaway (kuhingira) on 24th July. Shyne concepts handled the décor with a theme of peach, lilac and gold colours.

For the wedding, which was held the following day on 25th July, we worked with Dream house eventsand the theme colors were pink ombre, Gold and burgundy.

We held the wedding reception at Serena hotel Kampala hosting about 120 guests. Penny bold bridals dressed me while M’adelaide dressed my bridesmaids who were clad in a darker shade of pink. Serene Beauty Salon did our hair and make up. Joshua’s suit was from Bespoke Clothing Kampala and  Ben, his personal barber groomed him.

We had small challenges that had no big impact. So they weren’t things to keep focused on. They were easy to miss because we hosted a small gathering. We wouldn’t change anything about the day because every moment of the day was beautiful and memorable. We had the Acapella group for entertainment and DJ Kas Baby did the magic for us on the music. We danced till the end.

Cake

Flavours were blueberry, caramel and fruit cake.

Best moment

When we exchanged our vows and rings in church. Those two moments were the pinnacle of our wedding.

Nerves

Florence: There was a lot to worry about, wondering if everything was in place by the time we got there. (I even got nauseated) But before church I tried to tame my nerves by dancing in the salon. My bridal team made it so easy for me to relax amidst the panic.

Joshua: Believe me any man that has planned a wedding before knows that you get nervous at some point. But by the grace of God and the friends who stood by me, I kept calm. Things sailed smoothly with prayer and encouragement from my boys that played a very significant role towards and on the D-day. We were also lucky that our wedding was “scientific”. The whole COVID thing came in handy, it helped us reduce the numbers significantly.

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
