When Uganda Opened its Airport, He Was on The Next Flight to Come and Marry Me! – Henrietta & Bjørn

By  |

Henrietta Arinda Ziska Dahl and Bjørn Adam Ziska Dahl, a commercial diver working in the Faroe Islands, tied the knot in a simple intimate ceremony on 13th November, 2020. The couple later hosted their close friends and family to a small reception at Protea Hotel by Marriott Kampala Skyz.

Meeting

We met while he was studying to be a commercial diver in Norway last year, around December. We made plans for him to come to Uganda earlier but then Corona happened and the globe went into total lockdown. Fast forward, when Uganda opened its airport to passenger flights, he was on the next flight to Uganda 😅Until then, it was texts, FaceTime and voice calls.

Engagement

He popped the question on the night we came back to Kampala from visiting my mom. We’d been at my mom’s for I think three days. He’d wanted to pop the question while at mom’s but I didn’t give him the “opportunity” to. So when he had the chance to, he bought a box of chocolates, hid the ring in there and made sure I ate everything😅 somehow I didn’t see the ring! So, he had to do it the “traditional way”. The ring was too big though so I couldn’t wear it oops!

Planning the wedding

There wasn’t much to do really. We went too scientific with our function. Only our immediate families present. Sadly, his family couldn’t be available as their tickets had been canceled by the airline due to covid. However, they played a big role towards the special day. My family really made sure we were not stressed as regard to the wedding. My sisters; Charlotte, Carol, Jaki. My brother Arnold and my mom Evasie are real heroes! Everyone distributed amongst themselves what they’d take care of and that way, there was literally no pressure.

Outfits

I picked the design of my dress from an Instagram Page, and had it tailored by a professional tailor called Sarah. She’s really good at her job. I didn’t want the traditional white dress because this was really a small event. For his attire, he bought everything separately. The jacket, trouser, shirt, tie and shoes were all bought separately. He actually came with them from Denmark.
We didn’t do any traditional wedding as we decided to postpone it till the pandemic is not as bad as it is now. Hopefully!
