Karen and Stephen’s love story is a unique one. A waitress and an accountant, who met on a day when Stephen, in Uganda for his first time, lost his way to his hotel room. Read on for their wedding story.

Backstory

I met Stephen while working as a janitor at a hotel in Kampala. I gave him good reception and explained everything about Uganda. Because it was his first time in the country at that time, I guess this sparked something special between us. We later became good friends and communicated everyday for a whole year before the relationship going to another level.

Engagement

He proposed to me via video call and I said yes! He later came back to Uganda and made it official.

What sparked the fire

Bayern Karen: Aaah, When he insisted on meeting my parents via phone video call, and the fact that he didn’t consider me being a janitor, so he didn’t care what I was doing.

Stephen Mowrey: The honesty she showed me and the patience, the advice she gave and her calmness. I think, the day she smiled at me when I was lost sparked everything. She is a down to earth person.

Favorite part of the event

Bayern Karen: When I stepped out for the first time, he cried 😂 He couldn’t believe that I was the one and the entire community waiting for a queen, it was so nice.

Stephen Mowrey: I still remember her beautiful face and smile like it was yesterday, she is such an adorable person. I am honored to be with her.

Planning the wedding

It was a horrible experience. I broke down as many times as I could because of the frustration that was involved, and since I’m a shy person, it was super hard to go out the first time for people to see me, but it’s a good experience because you feel loved with every one being there for you. It’s such a sweet feeling.
