Welcome To November!

By  |

November is upon us, and if you made it here, pat yourself on the back – it’s never guaranteed. We have just come out of one half of the bursting fashion season, with most of the fashion weeks done, but that does not mean it’s over! It is only 9 weeks till 2020 but without a doubt, they are each going to be jam packed with fashion moments – history might be made, and we will be sure to document it all.

For me, October may have come and gone like the night turning into day, but in the speed of it all, I had a moment to pause. One Saturday, I opened up Facebook and its pesky memories reminded me that I graduated from Uni exactly one year ago. The flimsy selfie I took with my mom struck me, which was a reminder that I didn’t post official photos from my grad to social media, even when my parents had paid for and framed them.

The reason I didn’t post these images was quite flimsy; because of the whole chaos of everyone posting their graduation photos, I paused mine for a bit. This pausing went on and on until the point I felt indifferent about them. I felt it would be vain of me to draw out the moment by posting on Instagram when I had already made whatever noise I could make about it elsewhere.

Looking at the photos a year later, I paused for a minute. Finally, I could see that moment for what it was – a celebration. I paused because, who I was that day and who I am now are not exactly two different people, but they are definitely not the same. I could fully visualize and appreciate the growth that I had attained in a space of a year. Chasing life can be a roller coaster, which sometimes makes us miss those little details, albeit so powerful.

2019 might have been a whirlwind, and I might think the fulfillment lies in accomplishing whatever resolutions or goals I might have set for myself in January, but I realized that, fulfillment lies in trying to follow your dreams relentlessly. The beauty is in the journey. So again I say, pat yourself on the back, even if you’ve accomplished a little of what you intended to, the fact that you tried is worth applauding.
