“We Planned Our Wedding In 10 Days!” - Ronnie and Catherine

By  |

Ronnie Nsubuga, a model agent/creative director and founder of Crystal Models Africa as well as director for Miss Tourism Buganda, wedded his beautiful soulmate Catherine Nankinga a research /administrative technician at School of food science and technology Makerere University, in a scientific ceremony that was held at Our lady of Good Counsel Gayaza Catholic parish on 30th May, 2020.

The Meeting

We met through a mutual friend one evening in 2017. We exchanged contacts and kept in touch and our relationship grew with time. We have known each other for close to three years.

The Engagement

After about one year and a half, Cathie and I decided to let our parents know about the relationship. We had meetings , sought their blessings, then I went ahead and asked her to be my wife. A month later August 10th 2019, we held our Kukyala and 7th September same year we had our introduction.

The Introduction

We got our Busuutis from Nalutaya garments and the dress was by Millie the tailor.

Glam by Dee did the makeup. And the best part of the function was I putting a ring on Cathie’s finger.

The Wedding

We started planning in February but our wedding launch happened in March. Then the country went into a lockdown so we had to put our preparations on hold as well as our wedding. Our first wedding date was 5th May which is also my (Ronnie) birthday but after the birthday celebrations, we came up with a new date which was 30th May. We only had 10 days to plan our scientific wedding.

We made changes on church, reception , decor food and guest list. The only service providers we kept were the photographer, baker and salon. We wanted to beat curfew time so we held the wedding close to home.

The reception was held at Mukalazi gardens in Kasangati with a total of 50 guests. We wanted beautiful enclosed gardens, close to home and also, it was affordable. The package of the venue included music, chairs and tables. It came cheap.

I gave my phone away to the best man and paid attention to one event at a time. It was better for someone else to handle the trouble. We also had a team of friends who handled the service providers to make sure all was well. And that’s how we tamed our wedding day nerves. Delegating roles to trusted friends.

The cake was by Fifi Confectionery. Fruit, bubble gum and vanilla flavors.

The Decor

We had no particular theme but we used white, purple and peach as our colours. Since it was last minute planning, we just concluded with the available decorator that could do a good job at a good Price.

The Wow Moment

The entry dance to the reception and our speech. The cake part too was amazing.

The Wardrobe

Cathie’s gown was her own creation. It was a two-in-one dress. The inner-dress that she changed to as the reception dress and the Cinderella skirt over it for church. It was designed by Millie the tailor (Millie Racquel)

My suit, was an idea Kaijuka Abbas and I came up with. My wife and I chose the color so as to blend easily with the bridesmaids.

The salon, we used Serene Beauty for everything and the CEO, Cerina, beat my face (Bride).

Best Moment

Cathie walking down the aisle. Seeing her walk in was everything!

First Dance

Suzanna by Sauti sol.

Song you walked down aisle to

Groom: Great is thy Faithfulness

Bride: Here comes the Bride

Favorite Details

Having the photoshoot within church. We didn’t have so many outdoor options after church so we decided to try doing it inside

Challenges

It was hard to reach out to service providers, getting permission to move from the RDC and creating a new guest list to adhere to the RDCs accepted number.

One thing you would change

The  guest list. We would have loved to make it bigger for our friends and workmates and families to attend.

The Entertainment

The DJ played amazing music. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t plan for more entertainment due to the allocated time

What are you looking forward to as a married couple

Starting a family.

Advice to future grooms/brides

Take time to plan. Find ways to cut costs because life after the wedding is real.

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
