How Sliding Into Her DM Brought Ibrahim & Jedidah Together!

By  |

‘Don’t be afraid of shooting your shot’ is the lesson to pick from today’s wedding story. Ibrahim Yusuf Melah, a lawyer slid into Jedidah Musa, a school administrator’s DM on Instagram in 2018. Almost a year and half later, the Nigerian couple are happily married with a vow to spend the rest of their life together! They tied the knot on 27th june, 2020!

How did you meet?

Ibrahim and I met in December of 2018. He sent me a DM on Instagram, which I responded to after checking through his Instagram feed. He simply said “Hi”. I responded the following day after browsing through his Instagram feed. He then asked for my number, which I shared after a while. The rest was done on phone. We basically became really good friends. Then he asked to come over to my home for Christmas which I agreed to. Everyone was at home that day, and they all loved him.

Wow! So, was the proposal done on Instagram too?

No! The proposal was a surprise, he proposed in the car after we came back from a dinner date.
Anha! Then we proceeded to plan for the wedding. I didn’t have a traditional wedding. But my mom organized an event called the ‘Mother’s night’, where we had 200 guests who consisted of my mom’s friends and my friends. I wore a beautiful traditional gown and my makeup was really beautiful. The music was really good it got everyone dancing. It took place at my parents’ house in the evening a day before the wedding.

Then we had a ‘Sendforth prayer’ in church at 6am in the morning also a day to the wedding. My parents organized this so they, their friends and our pastors can come together to pray for me, so I can be a virtuous woman in my new home.

(We really love mothers. I am going to read about this mother’s night!)

The wedding…

I planned my wedding within six months. I didn’t have a wedding planner so I had to look for my reception venue myself, I kept communicating with all my vendors to make sure everything goes smoothly.

My decor was really beautiful, my theme colours were blush pink and emerald green, everything came out perfect. We had 400 guests hosted at International Hotel Banquet hall, Gombe.

My bridal shower was small, simple and very beautiful. It was just me and a few close friends.

The outfits…

I’ve always wanted a mermaid dress so I had a mermaid dress with a ball detachable skirt. My dress was made by a Nigerian designer @lola_rota. My husband’s suit was also from a Nigerian designer called @davidwej. My wedding makeup was everything I wanted, I had nude colours on, and it was very simple and elegant.

Our song for the first dance was picked by my husband. ‘A thousand years by Christina Perry‘.

The cake

Our cake was amazing! It was a chocolate cake with five layers, with touches of pink and green flowers around it.

Best moment

Our first dance was everything heavenly. We had a very beautiful Wedding, the day was perfect and magical.

(Judging by the smiles in the pictures, we can’t agree more.)

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
