As we get more excited about the long awaited revival of the Uganda International Fashion Week (UIFW), we receive more information about what to expect from the fashion moment to come 2nd – 4th August, 2019. The event, which is the 6th Edition of the fashion week, is returning after a 10 year hiatus much to the excitement of the fashion industry. It’s theme is ‘The Business Behind Fashion’ which is expected to delve into the inner workings of the industry.
At a press conference in Serena Hotel this morning, Santa Anzo spoke about how ripe the fashion industry is for the picking, “Fashion isn’t just about the lights, models and catwalks, there is more to it than that,” adding that when positions like seamstresses, accountants and fashion journalists are taken up by the youth, fashion can become a tool to create viable careers for the youth and women.
The event is being sponsored by the Uganda Tourism Board, with marketing manager Claire Mugabi adding that “Tourism is no longer about people coming to see wild animals. They want to experience the culture, the cuisine and the fashion. We are glad UIFW is taking a lead in fashion tourism”
Kansai Plascon is also a major sponsor, talking about how their paint palettes are often inspired by fashion and culture, so it was fitting that they partner with UIFW for this explosive colourful revival. Koni Lungi, Kansai Plascon’s Regional Manager added that, “As a leading paint brand, we want to give our full support by providing colour inspiration during UIFW 2019 through our Colour Forecast which displays an endless combination of colour stories that exhibit a mix of shades that create the feeling of freedom in both interior design and fashion platforms”
There is to be a number of activities, including an opening ceremony (2nd), a business symposium (3rd) and lastly the Grand Finale which will include a fashion show with revered designers like Stella Atal, Fatumah Asha, Abbas Kai, Paula Butagira and of course, Arapapa by Santa Anzo. The continental designers will feature 4 designers from South Africa who’s names have been kept under wraps, we will of course let you know who they are once they are ready to be announced.
If you’re as excited to go for the event like I am, the tickets for the grand finale are going at 50k for the ordinary, 200k VIP and 250k if you want that front row view. Those interested in knowing how to tap into the $700B industry are encouraged to attend the business symposium and learn about how to fit into the fashion industry to earn big.
