In a significant move to boost its global cultural and entertainment presence, Tanzania has officially confirmed it will host the Miss World 2027 pageant.
According to a report by The Citizen Tanzania, the announcement was made on Thursday, April 16, 2026, by Paul Makonda, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports. Speaking to journalists at the Parliament grounds in Dodoma, Minister Makonda highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy to showcase Tanzania’s unique heritage on an international stage.
The Tanzanian government has successfully completed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Miss World Organisation. This document outlines the technical expectations and the specific responsibilities Tanzania will assume as the host nation.
“We were working on a Memorandum of Understanding based on what the Miss World organisers required from Tanzania. Good news, that MOU is now complete,” Minister Makonda stated, as reported by The Citizen. He further noted that a formal signing ceremony will be held soon, with members of the media invited to witness the official agreement.
This development follows a recent milestone where Latricia Ian was crowned Miss World Tanzania on April 20, 2026, marking the first time the pageant has been organized under this new government-recognized structure.
Securing the 2027 slot follows Vietnam’s scheduled hosting in 2026. While there were initial discussions about Tanzania hosting the 2026 edition, those talks transitioned into a firm commitment for 2027. The Tanzanian government believes that hosting an event of this magnitude, watched by billions worldwide, is a prime opportunity to drive tourism and promote the “Soul of Africa” to the global community. Infrastructure planning and venue selection are already underway to ensure the pageant meets world-class standards.
