Take A Dive Into The New Nina Mire Collaborative Spring Summer ’22 Collection “Emotions”

By  |

Nina Mire, a mostly crochet fashion line by Nina Mirembe is always giving sexy and colourful poolside options. While they usually showcase at Fashion Week, the current situation made it difficult, and yet the mood to create was still rife, so a virtual launch it was!

This time around, she has collaborated with multiple other designers to come up with Emotions, a Spring Summer 2022 collection with all the colour, flair and collaborative spirit. Nina enlisted he help of designers like Sew Bantu, Hawaz Gallery and Malkia Jewelry.

“‘EMOTIONS’ the title of our new collection with so much that has happened our losses and pick ups, we couldn’t find a better way to describe it,” Nina explains. For Claire Asiimwe of Sew Bantu, this collection was therapeutic in it’s own way, “The collection was my way of coping through the COVID anxiety and depression.”

The collaboration came about due to the painstaking method of production, which for Nina includes crocheting by hand every single piece. “I can tell you it takes a century to finish some of the bigger garments,” she explains, ” As beautiful as they may be, it is exhausting, so we decided to bring Sew Bantu on board to help us bring our new line to life without exhausting our hands as usual and she’s so perfect every piece she touched has a perfect cut.”

And Sew Bantu’s inspiration for her part in the collection? Nina Mirembe of course! “For my pieces, inspiration was Nina and the different sides to her. That’s why some of the pieces are completely different from each other,” she reveals. Apparently it didn’t start as an idea for a collection though, “Nina asked me to come up with about 3 outfits for a getaway. But then between choosing fabric, colours and themes etc, we got ‘sidetracked’ and ended up with a whole multifaceted collection” Claire says.

For the designer who usually moulds perfect gowns, a swimsuit line looks completely out of the norm, but it was a welcome change of pace for Sew Bantu, “[It] pushed me out of my comfort zone too. I’ve experimented with cuts and trims I never thought to try,” she said.

Now when it came to the accessories to go along with this collection, Nina Mirembe is no stranger to collaborating with another designer to bring that to life, in the past having done a collection with Elijah Mcquinn. This time round, she enlisted the help of beadwork bags from Hawaz Gallery to do the trick. “You know we cannot go to the beach or festival un-accessorized. We therefore work with Hawaz Gallery, the talented Artisan who plays with beads,” Nina explains. “We’ve been working with her since 2020, she produced a line of beautiful  body jewelry, handbags, basket bags and funky bags for the festivals my god you should see her work.” She also used brass-work jewelry from Malkia Jewelry to spice it up.
