Siima Sabiti On Her Most Fearless Career Decision So Far

By  |

There’s just something about fearless women that never stops boggling our minds. What does fear mean to them, and how can we be just as badass as they are?

In this series, we talk to a few of women who looked fear in the eye, and made some really bold and pivotal decisions in their lives.

To start this off, meet Siima Sabiti. On twitter, she describes herself as a “professional yappist, voice-over artist, music addict, flautist, dog lover and naturalista.”

What is the most fearless decision you have ever made?

Most recently? Leaving my workplace of almost 10 years. It can be intimidating to leave a place you have been for such a long time, and I fought with my decision for a while. But in the end I chose to listen to my gut and to believe in myself.

What is your definition of Fearless?

To me, being fearless means many things. Doing what is right, regardless of what people around you will think or say. Staring the world in the face and saying, this is me, this is who I am. I’m not here to succumb to what YOU feel I should be. Being unashamedly, unabashedly myself.

Who are your most fierce/fearless role models?

Hmmm. It’s tough to choose. Miria Matembe. I love her. She says exactly what she thinks and even calls out people she once shared ideals with. She doesn’t stand any nonsense.

MoRoots. Goodness gracious me, I love her. You know, as women, we’re often squeezed into boxes. Told “you should be this or follow this path” and so on. MoRoots does everything! She sings, she writes, she plays keys, she plays sax. AND she kicks butt in the corporate world. She’s amazing.

I’m also obsessed with Lizzo. As a musician, I admire people who have mastered their instrument. As a flautist, I’m amazed that she plays the way she does AND sings AND twerks! I can’t twerk to save my life lol. If there’s anyone reading this who wants to teach me, I’m a good student.

What has been your most fearless fashion choice so far?

Lol! I’m laughing because I’m the least fashionable person I know! I dress for comfort, full stop. I’m a jeans and sneakers kinda girl. But when I do have to dress it up, I’ll only wear heels that won’t make me want to die and clothes that my body can breathe in. You won’t find me wearing anything where I have to hold my stomach in (haha). I guess my most fearless fashion choice is just not following trends. I wear what I want.
