Ronnie & Esther Kasujja will Probably Cut Their Wedding Cake During Their First Anniversary!

By  |

When Eng. Frederick Semakula Musisi was sending off his daughter Esther Musisi, he gave a marriage manual in form of a speech that we can all learn from or even print out and keep referring to. The baganda have a saying – paraphrased – when the ‘rich are counseling their children, poor children make it a point to eavesdrop’, you can read the father’s speech here.

Esther walked down the aisle to the love of her life Ronnie last year in September at Life Church Namasuba. Many of us got a glimpse of the beauty that these two created for their union then. Ronnie is a Business Consultant, while Esther is the CEO of Esina House. We believe people in Cake/Pastries will want to check this out. She is a lovely cook too (she didn’t tell us that but we could tell by her YouTube channel – Esther Chanelle)

The Kasujja’s met on a summer day through mutual friends.

What was the engagement like?

It was all a surprise. He went to a restaurant and organized a nice romantic dinner for two. He wanted it to be private. After dinner, he started a speech on how much I meant to him and he then knelt down, opened a ring box and asked me to marry him.

Let’s replay this wedding planning please in speech

It took us over 8 months planning with both families who live mostly abroad. So my husband and I did most of the groundwork especially engaging service providers, drafting budgets, color themes, etc.

We (my husband and I) looked up a lot of ideas, mixing up our top picks and our service providers then helped to make our dreams come alive. And we held a reception at mestil hotel.

(Well, we thought you would have 10000 but that’s just us)

The Décor…

We had always wanted a classic wedding instead of going with trends. One that we could reflect on for years and the impact just as beautiful, so we kept it posh, exclusive and clean with white and gold accents throughout. Our table arrangements were extremely simple, and we kept flowers to a minimum in order for guests to be able to interact across the table without being distracted by huge center pieces. I also wanted different types of tables for example rectangular mixed with circular. Our biggest focus was making our high table and walkway as beautiful as possible. We also added a see-through/clear tent to add an extra flair to the décor. We did all the planning ourselves so we attended no wedding shows or hired a wedding planner. All our ideas were researched online

(Ooh your walkway was amazing)

Which part of your wedding did you want to WOW the guests?

Our décor. That was our highlight. More details can be seen on my YouTube- Esther Chanelle. The video is called My Wedding- Behind the scenes.

Challenges you faced planning

Communication with family who live overseas due to different time zones.

Choosing what to wear and how to co-ordinate our entourage looks.

Dealing with some service providers

Time is never enough

(We hear you especially on time)

We loved your gown – anha! Spill the secrets…

The gown was inspired by a royal vibe. I wanted it to be a ball gown specifically. I flew with family and friends to Dubai and we found one with that gorgeous sparkling material from head to toe without being overwhelming, and luckily I found a similar blue dress for my second look. We bought all the bridesmaids fabric from there as well, and had their dresses tailored by my Aunt. They started with blush pink and changed into sky blue. I had 4 bridesmaids and 1 matron. I wanted them to be individual in their looks so the top half of their dresses had different designs that they each hand-picked. I also wanted them to have different hairstyles since they all have different personalities. That decision saved me a lot of the stress I would have faced if some were not happy with how they looked during the day. I wanted them to be comfortable because I needed to be surrounded by only positive and good energy from my girls.

(Like I said I still thought frozen, I guess I am watching lots of it and the decision you made to let the bridesmaids choose was wise)

And the groom and his groomsmen…

The groom chose a white and black tuxedo and his groomsmen got navy blue suits that were all tailored at @madewesternbespoke in London.

The Makeup/Salon?

The hair stylists and makeup artists worked on us from home. I wanted a simple look with glowy and bronzed skin. I started off with red lipstick and changed to brown gloss for the rest of the day. The bridesmaids didn’t want much makeup so they did minimal looks as well. The groom’s side dressed up from the hotel venue

(I hope working on a person good at makeup – you YouTube says that aloud was easy)

Cake, Cake, Cake…Did you even have one because the glimpse of pictures didn’t give us the sight of one or the décor blinded us

Yes. It was personally baked by my mum and Mirembe Cake House (The Cake Lady). The flavor was butter fruit cake. Best classic flavor combination ever and we can keep our cake for over a year. We’ll probably cut it on our 1 year anniversary.

Wait! What! First you get to have your mum bake, that’s such a beautiful- sweet thing if beautiful-sweet exists. But wait! You didn’t cut the cake? How? Why even? I wish I get invited to eat some of this cake.

How did you tame your wedding day nerves?

We prayed a lot and being around our close family and friends made us feel comfortable. Also knowing most of our guests had flown in, we didn’t want to appear down or upset.

(Prayer works magic)

Entertainment…

We had a band, a DJ, traditional dancers and one entertainer

(Perfect. Guests got a taste of everything)

What’s the one thing you would change about the wedding if you were to do it all over again?

We would change the number of guests that were invited.

(okay…)

Favorite details and how you came up with them

Our décor. We loved the little accents that added up and made it look bright and spectacular and also our wedding fashion looks, we loved how our entourage looked together.

One moment that will last with you forever

The moment we said our vows at the altar.

(Aww)

Song for the first dance?

Kiss from a rose by Seal

Song you walked down the aisle to?

The church choir sang a song.

(I am still asking google for the song haha)

 What about the photo session

We wanted to utilize our décor. Being one of the most expensive items on the budget, we didn’t want to waste it and pay to take photos somewhere else so we ended up having all of our official photos in the tent. That was probably one of the best decisions we made.

(You guys, wait till you see the pics, magic. Oh! You looked before you read)

Advice to future grooms/brides

Don’t stress about what you can’t control like the weather, etc. And it is always about your budget. If you choose to do it over the top or simple, it is totally up to you but never borrow money to do a wedding.

(Yas! Never)

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
