Quiet Luxury: The Silent Trend That is Louder Than Ever

By  |

There’s a new fashion idiom permeating our Instagram feeds and dominating the runways, and it goes by the name of ‘quiet luxury’. After years of obvious logos and recognizable designer accessories being the preserve of those who have money and want to show it off, the mega-rich are now turning to high-quality, plain garments to make up their wardrobes, pieces which whisper money rather than shout it from the rooftops.

That means no big, gold Gucci belt buckles or Louis Vuitton logo handbags — items that scream “I paid a lot of money for this.” Instead, think of clothes that whisper: cashmere sweaters, silk button-downs, or wool overcoats rendered in neutral tones and expensive materials.

Unlike ‘Barbie pink’, quiet luxury may be more than meets the eye, acting as a reflection of our financial climate. But, before we get ahead of ourselves, let’s set the record straight on what quiet luxury even is. Simply put, quiet luxury is new-age minimalism, with a larger focus on investment pieces and thoughtful shopping habits and according to Google Trends data released earlier this year, searches for ‘quiet luxury’ exploded over the past year by a staggering 614%.

It’s all about curating a selection of high-quality wearable pieces that seamlessly work with the rest of your wardrobe. Quiet luxury is defined by its easy elegance, easily put, it’s shopping with the intention to have pieces that last, rather than ones that are trendy for the season.

Still having trouble picturing what quiet luxury is? Think well-tailored basics and accessories that look like they could have been passed down as a family heirloom.

If you want to channel ‘old money’ and embark on the quiet luxury trend with your styling, go for ‘muted color ways’ and ‘classic shapes’. Consider your basics as a staple piece to every outfit and the fact the whole look needs to be polished. Use an iron as it is all about the details of this trend. Tailoring is your go-to! Avoid crop tops and baggy denim and you’re good to go.
