Prestige, Loukman Ali, Nana Kagga, Sanyu And More Win Big At This Year’s Uganda Film Festival

Yesterday saw the Uganda Communications Commission hold the 2022 edition Uganda Film Festival. The festival tailed various activities, which included; film screenings, workshops and forums, all organized within the festival week plus the grand finale which was the Gala that happened last evening where the best in the Ugandan film industry were awarded.

Earlier this year the call for nominee submissions was released and closed on March 31th and after the official announcing ceremony of the nominees was held leading to the finale event of the celebrations yesterday.

Many of the biggest names in Ugandan cinema attended the event from Maurice Kirya, Loukman Ali plus special guests like Halima Namakula.

The evening started out with cocktails as the nominees hit the red carpet and were treated to live band music before heading inside for the main ceremony. The night was officially kicked off by awarding the best of the best and some of the big winners were; Prestige which won Best Drama television series and our November 2021 cover star Evelyn Namatovu Kironde was awarded as Best Actress in a drama Tv/series, Sanyu’s Allan  Kutos walked away with the Best Actor in  Drama Tv/Series award and  Foot Wine won  Best Production design beating out Loukman Ali’s ‘A girl in a yellow jumper but Ali soon got his redemption by winning the best sound design award.

The Best short film award went to Ghetto Fist which won with a very loud applause from the crowd and Nana Kagga won one of the biggest awards of the night and most contested, The Best Actress award.

All the winners got a cash prize from the event organizers as a way of giving back to them for their work, passion and dedication to the Uganda Film Industry.
