Naomi Campbell spent a huge part of last weekend in Lagos, Nigeria walking for a slew of local and international designers during Arise Fashion Week 2018. It is then that she voiced her concerns about Africa being sidelined by the global industry with top-tier fashion publications such as Vogue Magazine shunning the continent.
“There should be a Vogue Africa,” Campbell told Reuters in an interview. “We just had Vogue Arabia – it is the next progression. It has to be.”
“Africa has never had the opportunity to be out there and their fabrics and their materials and their designs be accepted on the global platform … it shouldn’t be that way,” said the supermodel during the interview.
Campbell, who has always been outspoken about diversity in fashion, was recently named a contributing editor at British Vogue, under new Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful.
