Lil Ollo, real names Odong Stanley, is buoyant and animated! “In history, no one has hosted the Buzz Teenz Awards more that twice. Only I have done that,” he tells boasts. The TV star and rapper is just fresh from hosting his third edition of the event, some sort of highlight in his young career already. “It had always been my dream to host the event. Watching all these guys I’m now chilling with host these awards as a growing teenager and now hosting them myself is a dream come true.”

Hosting events with mainly celebrities in attendance is tough, and Ollo agrees. “Hosting a virtual event with only celebrities in the audience is not a walk in the park. They are hard to impress, it’s almost hard for them to vibe with you, and the worst part – they bring the social media life to the party,” he explains. “I had to adjust my jokes and line accordingly – I had to make them feel celebrated because they enjoy getting hyped.”

Then he gets animated, “but it was a walk over – I was nervous at the start, but I got my way around it and put on a great show.” “Didn’t I,” he asks.

The 15th edition of Buzz Teenz Awards was held on 19th December, and attended by a few guests; mainly celebrities and nominees. It streamed on TV in real time. The event was a complete success, with the usual display of fashion from guests, and of course, the host Lil Ollo, who carried the show through to the end.

Away from putting on a stellar performance, his highlight was having a ‘chill moment’ with Lynda Ddane. “Yo, I had to pull my stunt on live TV and have my moment. I have always wanted to have a chill moment with Lynda Ddane,” he laughs. “Of course, she’s a beautiful woman, but she’s also great at what she does and has grown so much over the last few years. So, I have a lot of admiration for her.”

For the event, Ollo had a slew of outfits, because well, he was hosting an awards show. “My first outfit was the netted gown with travel cushions that I wore with blue shorts. This look was put together by House of Chenko,” he says. “It was my opening outfit because I felt like I needed to have a unique introduction and not the usual suit and tie. It sparked a bit of controversy but we pulsers make the rules and that’s our lifestyle.”

His second look, he says, was inspired by a look worn by makeup artist Kamara Adrian. “Also designed by House of Chenko, it featured on one part African fabric and on the other, a sheer netting to amplify the theme ‘African finesse’.

“My third look was everyone’s favourite, and they had every reason to love it,” he says. This one was from Cloth Hub.

He closed the evening with a look put together by a stylist based in Jinja called Fizo. “I loved this look because it resonated well with the average teenager.”

About the future, Ollo is excited about 2022. “I have just released a remix for Teri Kuzikiza featuring Uganda’s biggest rapper; Navio, Feffe Busi, Da agent and Flex D paper. I intend to roll back into school tours and to continue empowering young people to chase their dreams.”
