Insights From Zerida Mponye on Food, Lifestyle, and Content Creation

By  |

Zerida Mponye, a lifestyle content creator (peep her Instagram here and Youtube show here) had a chat with Satisfashion UG where she shared some invaluable tips for fellow content creators, plus, of course some of her recommendations on what to pair with your White Cap Crisp.

Can you share a bit about yourself and what inspired you to become a food and lifestyle content creator?

I became a food blogger out of my deep passion for food. Being a devoted foodie, I thoroughly enjoy every aspect of it – from cooking and photographing to tasting and the entire process. Thus, transitioning into a food blogger role felt like the most natural progression for me.

How would you describe your niche within the food and lifestyle blogging space? What sets your content apart in terms of style and approach?

Interestingly, I initially started as a food blogger, but lately, I haven’t focused much on food due to a noticeable decline in standards and overall quality since the onset of the pandemic. I was hesitant to turn my page into a critique platform, so I gradually shifted away from food content. Unless I come across an exceptional dining experience, which is rare nowadays, I tend to discuss food less frequently. Instead, I find myself sharing something noteworthy or essential that my audience should know, and that’s when I touch on food or related topics.

Unfortunately, many of my recent dining experiences haven’t been outstanding; they’ve mostly been average. Consequently, I’ve naturally decreased my emphasis on food content. Concurrently, I’ve gravitated more towards the lifestyle aspect of things, and this shift has been incredibly rewarding.

What sets my content apart? I would attribute it to my personality. I don’t follow a template for anything; I create everything from the heart. Each piece of content reflects a part of me, and I believe that’s the distinguishing factor. Some have described me as a very niche creator – you either get it or you don’t. I find this description accurate, and it makes me smile because that’s genuinely who I am. Mainstream was never my style, and I embrace that wholeheartedly.

Then, what’s your favorite type of content to create?

My favourite is lifestyle content; it flows effortlessly for me. Additionally, it happens to be my favorite type of content to consume. Naturally, I produce content for myself – I am my first audience. I create content that I love or would enjoy seeing.

Your Youtube show ‘In This Season UG’ is catching steam. Take us through the creative process involved in that too?

I’m thrilled you asked about my current project ‘In This Season UG’.  The creative process for this season involves thinking from the perspective of my audience, considering what I’d like to hear and what questions I’d want answers to. Since the season began, ideas have been drawn from various sources – conversations with people, online interactions, and radio discussions. Regardless of location, relationships are a prevalent theme. In this season, content is spontaneous, often emerging on shoot days based on what feels relevant at the moment. While some preparation may occur, we often go with the flow, capturing what’s timely and resonant.

Balancing a content creation with daily life can be challenging. How do you manage your time to ensure both your content creation and personal life thrive?

I plan my content creation using a calendar. At the beginning of each week, I decide the quantity of content I aim to produce. I don’t assign specific days because each day unfolds differently – there are times I feel inspired, and times I don’t. If I set a goal, like creating two reels for the week, I constantly think about it throughout the week. While spontaneity keeps the content fresh, I also pre-schedule. For instance, this week I planned for three reels. Occasionally, I may exceed this if inspiration strikes. A creator once advised treating content creation seriously, not just as a hobby. This perspective transformed my approach, and I allocate significant energy to content creation alongside other commitments, and it has shown results.

How do you choose the brands or businesses you collaborate with?

I choose brands and businesses that align with my values, seamlessly integrate into my content, and are already a part of my life. Authenticity is paramount to me. For instance, I collaborated with a niche yet upscale restaurant that I genuinely loved – from the food to the ambiance. The collaboration was effortless, given it was a place I frequented daily. This partnership lasted about a year and remains the most straightforward collaboration I’ve experienced. Presently, I am working with two beverage brands, both of which align perfectly with my preferences, making it easy to naturally incorporate them into my content.

Let’s talk about White Cap Crisp. How do you perceive the idea of pairing a low-alcohol beverage with a health meal?

To be honest, a few years ago, the idea of a low-alcohol beverage wouldn’t have made sense. Now, in my 30s, I appreciate the concept because it allows me to easily carry on with my activities. It’s low in sugar and aligns with health consciousness, which is more prevalent now. Opting for a low-alcohol beverage with your food seems like a good idea. Specifically, White Cap Crisp has a very mild taste – not too sweet, not too bitter. It complements cold food exceptionally well.

What suggestions would you offer to individuals keen on exploring healthy food and beverage pairings, especially with low-alcohol options like White Cap Crisp?

My advice would be to experiment. Try pairing your beer or drink with various food options. You might consider pairing it with lighter options such as seafood or salad, or you can take a more adventurous approach by trying it with spicier dishes for bolder flavor combinations. See what works best for your palate through this exploration.

What factors do you think position White Cap Crisp as an apt choice for those who value both upscale dining and a healthy lifestyle?

Whitecap is an ideal choice for mid-week indulgence with its low alcohol percentage, ensuring a fresh start the next day without compromising productivity. Its minimal impact on your day makes it perfect for those seeking a mid-week drink without the usual sluggishness. The absence of sugar allows for moderate consumption, aligning with a healthy lifestyle. The chic packaging, especially the can with its appealing color and font, adds to the overall aesthetic. The smaller bottle size enhances its visual and practical appeal.

How do you stay updated on the latest food trends, and how do they influence your content?

Honestly, I’m not one to follow trends; I consider myself more of a trendsetter than a follower. In my content and style, I prioritize what feels right for me. Trends don’t bother me because conformity makes everyone look the same, and that’s boring. My inspiration comes from various sources. I rely on the algorithm, appreciating how it tailors my online experience to my preferences. My interests change daily, and I enjoy the spontaneity. I draw inspiration from my emotions, as I’m a very emotional person. Ultimately, my biggest inspiration has always been myself.

What are your future plans and aspirations for your blog and content creation?

Content creation is a dynamic realm filled with endless possibilities. The landscape continually evolves, introducing new levels each year. When I reflect on how it was when I started, it’s miles away from the current state. It’s a gift that keeps on giving; constantly evolving and unveiling new approaches, some planned, others unforeseen. I choose not to set limits and remain open to the endless possibilities, embracing the journey and seeing where it leads.

I currently engage in both food and lifestyle content creation. In the near future, my goal is to integrate these experiences. Before the pandemic, I started a supper club, bringing together like-minded women from diverse backgrounds. This venture was immensely rewarding, spanning two years from 2018 to 2019. Although we hosted one event in 2020 before the lockdown, subsequent plans were disrupted. Despite sporadic events since then, my ambition is to curate even more meaningful experiences moving forward.

This article was done in collaboration with White Cap Crisp. WhiteCap Crisp comes in both bottles and cans and is available at selected restaurants and supermarkets within Kampala.
