Inside Adam and Marina Jjuuko’s Glamorous Wedding Bash

By  |

When your wedding bash is a dream production; Fenon Events on the setup, Pink Coconut on the décor, Beryl Qouture on the gown, Daville on the photography, Wow Hospitality on the food, Frozen Delight Juice on the drink, Fayth Presh on the makeup, DJ Selector Jay on the deck, Pherys Hair & Hair by Zziwa on the hair, Flex Fashion on the shoes, Bake for me on the cake, Cine Events on the tents and a hunky gentleman by your side. Marina’s wedding bash was an absolute dream!

Adam Jjuuko, a Lights designer at Fenon Events (which explains the exquisite lighting), and Marina, a Sales Manager at at East Africa’ glassware mart Nuptials, tied the knot on 18th January, 2020. The two love birds met at Centenary Park back in 2010 and dated for six years despite knowing each other for a decade.

Here is the fabulous celebration of their union.

Tell us about the engagement;

Well we were already living together (we have a 4yr old), we knew we wanted to marry each other, we didn’t see this necessary, we just set dates! Basically there was no engagement.

How did you plan such a big wedding bash?

He works with an events company, I am a lover of beautiful things, so we just sat down and shared ideas. I knew all the service providers I wanted to use, I just called them and negotiated rates. I met with the decorator twice and boom. After exchanging our vows at Kibuli Mosque, we held our reception at Executive gardens Bbunga which is very spacious, price friendly, could accommodate all our 400 guests and also we know the people that own it. So we didn’t even have a wedding planner.

Tell us about the theme and the colours

The theme was glamour. Less flowers more pearls, crystals, glass and mirrors. We had already done too many flowers for kukyala and Kwanjula. The theme colour was shades of blue, white and silver… It’s a unique elegant combination.

(And I do agree it was very elegant)

Which part of your wedding did you want to WOW the guests?

 Everything…. and it did. 😊

(Oh yes you did, even we the online guests were wowed)

Did you attend any wedding shows, where did you source this inspiration?

None… Everything was off Pinterest and our creative minds.

What inspired the fashion choices?

We wanted to look unique. For the gown, it was either plain or pearls, but because the theme was glamour, I felt that pearls would match the theme perfectly. Simple but oozing elegance 😉
For Hubby’s suit, we thought the colour was unique and classy.

Did you have bridesmaids? We didn’t see any.

No I didn’t, I just asked my close girlfriends to wear shades of purple and show up 😊

(Bang!)

The cake?

Bake for me baked it, it was a fruit cake. I love their fruit cakes and they didn’t disappoint.

What’s the one thing you would change about the wedding if you were to do it all over again?

We would drive our own cars. The service of the drivers from hired cars is terrible.

(Yoooo! Next time, let’s say Jubilee. But isn’t firing after hiring allowed and you insist on just driving their cars without them? Don’t mind me)

Tell us about the makeup, why the subtle look?

FaythPresh did my makeup, she mastered my face. I don’t look good with too much make up, also my husband thinks I look good with just lipstick. It had to be subtle!

(And did I say you have a gorgeous smile…hmm.)

The entertainment?

We had performances from Irene Ntale, Ykee Benda, AllanToniks, Naava Grey, Aziz Azion, Levixone and Davies the Violinist. Selector Jay was the DJ.

(Yooo, a mini concert… Dear future husband in my next life, I want to be these guys)

How did you handle the wedding day nerves?

We had an amazing team of service providers, on top of them being some of the best in the business, they are also our friends, so I guess we felt covered. Also our committee was amazing. We were not worried.

One moment that will last with you forever.

Our first dance! It was magical.

Anha! Which song was this?

 Beautiful in white.

(Yep! Westlife was a beautiful choice)

And then, what song did you walk down the aisle to?

Matali 😂😂 because well it was at a mosque

(Otyo! I guess a touch of those got you smiling and grooving)

Favourite details:

The huge screen at the high table that kept giving us different views of our own event.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

Spending forever together, Insha’Allah

(Ameen)

Advice to future grooms/brides

Look out for the best service providers, try and find reviews about whoever you plan to use. Hire a wedding planner if you have to. Service providers make or break the function

And the photo session…?
We took most of the photos at the wedding venue before the guests arrived, at the different backgrounds from the screen, we also had a photo booth, took some pictures in munyonyo as well.

The changing outfits (why sneakers and not heels, why a short dress and not a gown, the brides choice of head dress as opposed to the tiara).

Adam is not much of a formal person (even from his wedding outfits), so I chose sneakers to match his style and also because I thought that would be unique. Head dress, I believe I look good with vines plus my choice of gown wouldn’t look good with tiara.

Short dress (I have beautiful legs my husband asked me to show them off) jokes… well because I love my dresses short always, plus what better way to rock sneakers than in a short dress. (Red is my favourite colour)

(Ps. You have beautiful legs, no jokes)

Thank you Adam and Marina for sharing, we wish you a blissful union!

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
