Social Distancing

How NBS TV’s Sheila Salta is Coping with Social Distancing!

By  |

As Coronavirus wreaks havoc across the globe, many Ugandans are choosing to social distance, as a protective measure against the spread of the deadly virus. The practice involves restricting movement, avoiding large gatherings, barring friends from visting, working from home, and basically living in isolation. Uganda hasn’t registered an infection yet, but no one is taking chances.

We had a chat with Sheila Saltofte, the new host of NBS Katchup, on how she’s coping.

What’s your daily routine now that you are keeping at home most of the time?

I wake up at 9am, do some runs around Muyenga before I do Yoga. Now that my child has no school, he joins me during these activities. We then do home work, lunch, watch a movie and sleep early. On weekends, such as today, we play board games and quizzes. It’s family time. Away from all that, I’m mostly doing Netflix and Playstation.

What do you miss the most about your social freedom?

I miss meeting up with friends and scheming where to go to chill, swim, eat, party and catching up on gossip.

Katchup was dull last night without you

I’ve actually been under the weather since Thursday. I tried doing the after 5 show but started getting worse towards Katch up. I’m home resting now. I hate missing work and with or without the audience the show will always be lit.

You have brought a new energy to the show. What keeps you hyped?

I’m naturally hyped, I guess because of my Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD),  a condition which includes attention difficulty, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. It’s also because I love music and dancing so much.

If there’s someone you would self isolate with, who would that be?

My boyfriend Maxim, he’s fun, entertaining and resourceful. He is most in Entebbe working on a big project.

What’s the biggest lesson you’re picking from this experience?

Your best company is your body, mind and soul. Nurture, protect and love it. Feed it knowledge by reading a book, get yourself a mask and scrub to make your skin glow. Drink water, sleep well and eat well to keep your body strong and healthy. Lastly listen to music because it’s great for your soul.

What are you listening to?

Old skool and hits from the late 19’s and early 2000’s.
