Hiziri & Aisha: Mystery, Our Introduction Ceremony was on the Same Date We First Met

By  |

They started planning for their traditional wedding in 2017, Hiziri was busy scanning calendars of years ahead to find a weekend date that also matched as his girlfriend’s birthday – for their traditional wedding.  He luckily spotted the perfect day, 3 years ahead, in 2021 and for them, it was worth the wait. However, when 14th August 2021 reached, it was in the middle of a worldwide crisis and Uganda was under lockdown. Their ceremony unexpectedly happened on 13th November 2021, a date on which they also met 4 years ago, what more than that is magical!

Bride: Aisha Nalubega, a Registered Nurse

Groom: Hiziri Ssebuuma, a Monitoring & Evaluation Officer

Venue: Kyeirumba, Isingiro District

Date: 13th of November 2021

Meeting

Aisha: I met him on the 13th day of November 2016 at Isingiro district health office. I had gone to pick a recommendation letter from the DHO for my internship where he worked, Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) by then. He offered me a seat in their office as I waited for the DHO. As we talked, he picked my phone and called on his number and that’s how he got my number. On reaching home he called me and that’s how our communication started, the rest is history.

Hiziri: First time to see her, it was love at first sight! A well-dressed muslimat with all the morphology. The turning point for me was when she waited in our office. I then started it all in our conversation where she generously shared her number when I asked. In a month’s time, I left EGPAF-Isingiro to join the Infectious Diseases Institute in Masindi leaving her in Mbarara, but we kept in touch.

Engagement

Aisha: It was in February 2019 when he bravely told me that he loves me. I was happy that he finally said his heart out because I already had feelings for him. Since we had a long-distance relationship, we built our relationship on Trust and Love, since we are in different districts and we could take long to meet. I was so contented in our relationship, that’s when I felt he is the right one to hold my hand and meet my parents.

Hiziri: On knowing her birth date in 2017, I looked for the same date on a weekend for our kwanjula ceremony, and this was falling on Saturday, 14th of August 2021. Unfortunately, by the time we reached the desired date, the country was locked down. I then opted for the same date as we first met of the 13th November.

Kwanjula & Giveaway

It all started with kukyala on the 25th of September 2021 at Kaberebere in Isingiro district, followed by Kwanjula a month later at Kyeirumba.

Aisha: We had planned to do our traditional wedding on 14th August 2021 which is my birthday but due to lockdown we postponed it to 13th November since it was the day when we first met.

With the much support from our friends and family on this, and the committee that well managed the service providers, we were able to accomplish and deliver without financial stress in a month time. Thumbs up to Hamza Karizma on this, he did a wonderful job.

What was the most interesting part about the entire process?

The most interesting part was having our Introduction ceremony on the same day as we first met, though we had planned having it on Aisha’s birthday, that was failed by the lockdown.
