Fashion Police: The Good, The Bad and The Deplorable Looks From The 2019 Met Gala

By  |

This year’s Met and accompanying Costume Institute Exhibition themed “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. The theme draws on a 1964 Susan Sontang essay which described camp as “love for the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration” and oh, was it hyperbolic?

Of course, the theme got a little out of hand for some, almost as if they didn’t get the memo while others followed it to a tee.

Exaggeration? Not really, this is another ugly jumpsuit
Does this say “artifice” or “exaggeration” ? Absolutely not. It’s too clean even for a wedding guest outfit!
The gown definitely wore her. More like a B list movie awards event.
Just a little flare for the dramatic on this and we wouldn’t be complaining. May be a train here or a dramatic sleeve there Loving the peeking lace though.
Ashley Graham looked ready for the American Music Awards not the Met. All those curves put to waste!
When they say camp and you instead show up as a lamp. Unfortunately for Katy Perry, the chandeliers chocked her look that it was too uncomfortable to look at her. Meanwhile the shoes are meme-inducing!
Stuffy and lazy. The blue bow cannot save that look. I see what you were trying to do.
Seems to me like this girl cannot do without exposing her body. Emily Ratajkowski came through in a barely there dress which proved distasteful because of that crisscross on the bodice.
Donatella Versace looked like she wore one of her intern’s last minute crafted kites. From the highlights in her hair to that neon train, this was the worst look at the Met.
What a drab look Lala! In an attempt to take risks with paper textured dress, this ensemble ended up dull and unflattering.
Model Abby Lee tried channeling Little Mermaid. From the stand alone boob cups to the waist down, this looked like a lot of fidgeting was done in the process of making the dress “extra”.
She looks like she was modelling her friend’s downtown boutique outfit. Go big or go home? Go home..
For a person who passes judgement on contestants’ design work, Karlie Kloss deserves to be number one on this list. She went for a gold tube mini dress with puffy sleeves. No risks taken. A boring look for a fashion maven. This wasn’t even good enough or the After-party!
Opting for an unflattering black jumpsuit was the mistake Kris Jenner made. The flamboyant cape could not help matters nor the blonde bob which made her look like her daughter, Khloe, who wasn’t invited to the event.
She tried to recreate a sea creature look and it went left. This multi textured dress was not well designed and cannot even pass for a piece of art.
It’s always models that don’t follow themes. It’s bad enough that her dress is the same colour as the carpet, the dress is an ordinary Hollywood glam look, not camp worthy.
Here arrives the king of camp, allow us chance to breathe Billy Porter.
When you’re trying too hard to show your girl that your suit doesn’t have to be conventional. He basically wore all his Sunday best outfits in one!
Frank Ocean channeling the mean Maths teacher on a Monday morning!
I can stare at this all day, thank you Janelle Monae for existing!
I wonder what the assistant was arranging, this look is very confusing, nothing is cohesive on it, and no amount of arranging can save it. It shouldn’t have happening in the first place,
This is creepy, in an interesting way!
This was too sweet for camp, go home!
