Faisal & Robinah: We Met During My S5 Holiday!

By  |

Faisal Asega, a Finance Assistant and Robinah Yashmeen Lamunu Kilama, an Admin assistant (both in the accounting sector and pursuing their CPA) held their kukyala during the first weekend of lockdown.

Dating

We first met in Kamwokya during my F5 end of year holiday. My sister introduced him to me as her friend and OB. We later met again at campus and became best of friends. Six years later and we are still together.

Proposal

It was a very lovely surprise. I was preparing for my fiances’ sister’s birthday (sister-in-law) but when I arrived at the venue it turned out to be my own surprise birthday party and few minutes later, my engagement. It was a birthday/engagement party, a beautiful memorable day full of laughter and tears of joy.

Outfits

My outfit was designed by Ambaa clothing ug and his look by Kendash signature.

(Why not a busuuti?)

I am Acholi by tribe and our traditional outfit is mainly kitenge with beads and gomesi. It’s why I chose an outfit with a mixture of kente. He is an Aringa so that’s why he went with a kaftan suit with a touch of kente fabric. Being a Moslem, the Cinderella dress silhouette came in handy for me. A body hugging look wasn’t appropriate considering that I was meeting my Moslem in-laws.

Beauty

My makeup was done by Yvonne Tash makeup.

The event

We had 15 guests. No entourage because the function landed on the first weekend of the lockdown. We also had to exclude ladies from Faisal’s entourage because we had to restrict the number of guests at home. It’s okay for the entourage to be without women. Our kukyalas are private and limited to just the in-laws, the girl’s parents, uncles and aunt only.

(Now I get. It’s us that want the whole big functions outside tradition a times)

Cake

We had no cake. It was just the introductions, dowry presentation and negotiations.

(Eh, the way I look for excuses to have cake)

Decor

Decor parlor Ug did our decor. Theme  colours were baby pink, gold and a sprinkle of black.

Photography was done by Studio 85.

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
