Busoga Royal Wedding: Get The Details On The Kyabazinga’s Weighty Royal Robe & Cap Designed by Lillian Kyabaki
Today, the 18th of November 2023, marked the grand union of Kyabazinga Isebantu William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV and Inebantu Jovia Mutesi in a lavish ceremony held in Bugembe, Jinja City. Amidst the cultural splendor, all eyes were on the Kyabazinga, His Royal Highness, who graced the occasion in a majestic purple robe, a true testament to the opulence of Busoga tradition.
Design Secrets Unveiled: Lillian Kyabaki’s Regal Touch
In a fashion twist fit for royalty, the regal purple robe was the brainchild of none other than Ugandan couturier extraordinaire, Lillian Kyabaki. Renowned for her bridal couture magic, Kyabaki was bestowed with the royal task of creating a garment befitting the grandeur of the event and the royalty it adorned.
A Tapestry of Heritage and History Unfolded
The awe-inspiring robe, crafted by the talented Lillian Kyabaki, unfolded in intricate patterns hand-appliqued in gold suede. Each stitch told a story, a reflection of the profound heritage and rich history of the Busoga kingdom. The collaboration between Kyabaki and the Kyabazinga himself was more than a creative process; it was a labour of love and respect for Busoga’s enduring legacy.
From Dubai to Bugembe:
The carefully chosen fabric embarked on an international journey, making its way from the glamour of Dubai to the cultural heart of Bugembe. Efforts to source this exquisite material locally in Kampala proved futile, according to Kyabaki. Weighing an impressive 6kg, the robe draped the Kyabazinga in layers of luxury, each fold carrying the weight of Busoga’s rich history.
A Matching Cap: Because Every Royal Deserves a Crown
Completing this regal ensemble was a matching cap, echoing the robe’s royal purple hue. Weighing in at 2kg, the cap added an extra layer of sophistication to the Kyabazinga’s attire, turning heads and setting a new standard for regal fashion.
Craftsmanship and Collaboration: Behind the Scenes
Creating these extraordinary pieces was no ordinary feat. Months of collaboration between Kyabaki and the Kyabazinga himself went into every detail, from conceptualization to the final fitting. The robe and cap stand as a testament to the dedication invested in preserving and celebrating Busoga’s cultural identity.
Underneath the Regal Robe: Larry Casual’s Royal Touch
Beneath the royal robe, the Kyabazinga sported a white Kanzu (tunic) specially crafted for the event by Larry Casual, one of Kampala’s top menswear designers. A subtle touch of modern elegance beneath the weighty layers of tradition.
