British Vogue Just Won The Diversity Card Hands Down

By  |

Have you seen the latest cover of British Vogue magazine? Besides starring one of our favourite models this season, Adut Akech, the May 2018 issue of the glossy tapped models of all shades, skin tones, body sizes, religious affiliations and more. The cover is already receiving rave reviews from critics from all over the world, a step in the direction of a magazine that was once described as ‘stiff and bland’.

The diverse scene shot by Craig McDean and styled by Edward Enninful, the new editor-in-chief, has models Adut Akech, Faretta, Fran Summers, Halima Aden, Paloma Elsesser, Radhika Nair, Selena Forrest, Vittoria Ceretti, and Yoon Young Bae all in army earth tones from Prada, Christian Dior, Alberta Ferretti and more.

Adut Akech Bior is a Sudanese-Australian model born in Kakuma, Kenya in 1999. Akech made her fashion week runway debut as an exclusive in the Saint Laurent S/S 17 show and went on to close both their F/W 17 and S/S 18 shows as an exclusive.
Halima Aden is the first Hijab-wearing model to appear on the cover of the 100-year-old magazine.  Korean model Yoon Young Bae and Indian model Radhika Nair collectively are the first East Asian and South Asian models on British Vogue’s cover.
If this isn’t remarkable, I don’t know what else describes it?

The issue hits stands tomorrow.
