This was one of the most delightful collections of the first day of Fashion Week. The playful silhouettes and use of PVC plastic in Kai’s Divo Collection’s Spring Summer collection had the crowd sitting up straighter, clearly paying attention.
The collection kicked off with a bright yellow high-low skirt and a layered PVC crop top. The burst of colour with the yellow had the fashion lovers gasping even before the model came onto the runway. There was mostly black, white and clear plastic looks, with inserts of colour with the yellow and an unexpected pink Vogue cover collage. The use of the rigid fabric was manipulated to emphasize silhouettes of the models, from mermaid and hourglass feminine shapes to strong shoulders on the menswear. There was that sense of balance; light with heavy, gentle and strong, black and white.

When we caught up with Kaijuka Abbas after the sow, he said the collection was one he just thought of and brought to life. “I just thought of something fun to make and decided to do this collection.” Clearly the passion was flowing through to the art in this case, as the crowd couldn’t get enough.
