We missed it too, but the scene of relatives hurling insults at each other over the shortage was shocking, to say the least. I also recall a bride sharing her experience in a ‘business name and shame’ forum, revealing how she discovered—just a day before her wedding—that her gown had not been altered to fit. A simple oversight, yes, but one she partly blamed on being overwhelmed by the responsibilities of planning her wedding herself. Another close friend recounted how by the end of his wedding reception, both his and his wife’s families were at odds, after a planning process riddled with tension.
We’ve all heard these stories, and many of us have been part of them. But weddings should be serene and seamless for everyone involved—the couple, their families, and their guests. In Uganda, the concept of having someone coordinate your wedding is not new. It could be a sister, a best friend, or a cousin lending a hand. But the rise of professional wedding and event planners is a relatively recent, yet welcome, development.
A wedding planner acts as a project manager for your big day. Their role encompasses everything from managing the budget to sourcing and overseeing the vendors—venue, décor, celebrant, catering, entertainment, photography, videography, transportation, accommodation, hair and makeup, and even the cake. Beyond logistics, they provide creative guidance, a calming presence, and a listening ear when tensions run high, especially with family or in-laws.
Though often confused with a wedding stylist, a planner’s job is distinct. “We are very deliberate about working with vendors who not only have a strong work ethic, but also take great pride in their work. It’s important to us to work with professionals that find joy and fulfilment in their work, so that this positive energy filters through our work process up to the client,” the duo shares.
MindBlowers UG Events
For five years, MindBlowers UG has been weaving magic, helping couples and clients enjoy their big days without the usual stress of coordination and planning. Founders Madrine Muwanguzi and Kaizire Michael bring together their respective expertise in pharmacy and engineering, channelling their passion for creativity into stunning event designs. “Every event is unique,” Muwanguzi says, “and we love coming up with fresh ideas that reflect each couple’s vision.” Known for their hands-on approach, they ensure no detail is overlooked, delivering seamless, stress-free celebrations.
“My true love lies in designing beautiful spaces. I’m the kind of person who walks into a room and immediately sees how to make it magical. Michael, on the other hand, is the creative genius behind the scenes,” Muwanguzi explains. Together, the duo make an unstoppable team.

Lotus Event Planners Uganda
Founded four years ago by sisters Kyomuhendo Phyllis, a medical radiographer and Barbarah Mbonimpa Birungi, a environmental engineer, Lotus Event Planners combines passion with precision. Both sisters have turned their lifelong love for organizing family and friends’ events into a thriving business.
“Event planning has always flowed naturally out of us. For as long as we can remember we have always been the go-to people in our friends and family circles to plan events,” Phyllis recalls. What started as organising friends’ birthdays, and family baby showers quickly turned into organising weddings. It was after they successfully planned and executed their sister’s Kuhingira of 700 people that it hit them that they were ready to turn their passion and talent into a business.
Their approach is deeply rooted in faith, seeing wedding planning as a church ministry that supports couples through the emotional ups and downs of the process. “It takes faith to walk the journey with the couple and talk through those heated moments that try a couple during the events planning process. It takes faith to plan but also pray over every detail knowing that God is the one that does weddings and our place is to serve/minister to the clients as He leads us,” Barbarah explains.

Chantal Nalubega Munira, a lawyer with a love for event planning, is the mastermind behind MCherished Moments. For over five years, her company has been crafting elegant weddings under the mantra, “We create, you celebrate.”
“My heart beats for event planning and decor, a world I’ve immersed myself in for over five years,”Munira shares.
Her commitment to building strong relationships with trusted vendors ensures that every couple receives exceptional service, with careful attention to budget and detail. She explains that Cherished Moments is not just an event planning company but dream weavers, love enthusiasts, and memory creators. She adds that her journey is built on solid relationships with trusted vendors, ensuring access to the industry’s best resources. “We take pride in our meticulous attention to detail, a knack for staying within budget, and a deep love for celebrating life’s moments, especially love itself.”

Under the leadership of Chantal Basuuta Musoke, Bijoux Events has become a trusted name in wedding planning over the past three years. Musoke, a certified wedding planner from the South Africa School of Weddings, takes pride in solving problems before they even arise, ensuring her couples remain at peace throughout the process.
Musoke’s approach to the job is by being the couple’s problem solver. “I like to be the perfect bridge between the service provider and the client. I pride myself in being a problem solver and bringing as much peace to the client during the planning period as possible,” she explains.

Izuba is a wedding planning and consultancy company founded by Ounkunda Liza Semakula. Liz says that she truly loves all things weddings because she believes there is something particularly great about them. Because of that, she’d prefer that every couple has nothing but joy during their ‘big day’.
Her approach to planning a wedding, of course, is by carrying all the stress off the couple, allowing them to be present and create memories.
Her favourite part about her is job is the joy of the couple at the end of the day. “A lot goes into planning a wedding. What the guests see on the day is a manifestation of everything that happened before which is many weeks of planning. The hours, the emotions, and the time, it’s all worth it at the end when the couple walks out saying “woow”, she explains.
