How A School Camp Brought Fiona & Edwin Together!
Fiona and Edwin’s love story is proof that love is such a beautiful thing. From meeting for the first time during primary school, then linking up again during a school camp, and then having a romantic proposal in Dubai, during a trip that was supposed to be to Dar-es-Salaam, their story is such a marvel. And then came their wedding album, one of the most pristine albums you’ll see. There’s so much inspiration to borrow. We wish the couple nothing but a beautiful union.

How they met
We actually met during primary school. We attended the same school, although we weren’t close at the time. We then went ahead to join different secondary schools – he went to St. Mary’s Kitende, and I went to Kings College Budo. Also, he was a year ahead of me. During my Senior Four, we had a high school camp, where different schools came together to network. He attended this camp, and we connected again. We instantly became friends and kept in touch. We began dating during my second year at university. That was in 2014!
Engagement
Oh my gosh! So, 2019 was a very stressful year for me. I had too much work which left me really exhausted. I kept pestering Edwin for a trip to just get my mind right. He suggested that we go to Dar es Salaam for a holiday. I was very excited, because honestly, it didn’t matter to me where we went. I just needed to relax.
He asked me if I had friends who would like to come along. I asked some of my friends, and two of them were eager and thrilled to join us. Little did I know that they were in the loop and were already briefed by Edwin. I even created a WhatsApp group with the name “Dar trip” for proper planning.
Soon, the D-day was before us, and it was Christmas Day of 2019. We headed to the airport. As soon as we got there, he began recording a video. He asked that all 3 of us say where we were going in unison. I shouted “Dar” as everyone else screamed “Dubai”. This got me confused. Just like that, he had planned a surprise Dubai trip under my nose!
However, I had no idea that he would propose to me during the trip, after all, I had pestered him for the trip. On 27th Dec, 2019, we had a trip to the miracle gardens in Dubai. A very beautiful place with natural flowers everywhere. He hired a professional photographer, who was introduced to me as “the guy documenting our trip.” When we got to the arc at Miracle Garden, he got on one knee and proposed. I honestly didn’t expect it and I was overjoyed. Of course, I said yes!! Lol
Planning the wedding
Planning our wedding was tiring I must say, because I didn’t get leave off work till like Thursday when the wedding day was Saturday same week. But, we had a very strong support system from family and mainly friends who ran around for us and got things done. We got tired because we had to make decisions on the service providers and what exactly we wanted. When it came to things like decor, food menu details etc of course I had to look at every single detail myself. We didn’t hold any wedding meetings but then, our events were very well organized. These people got things done like clock work. I had my aunt Barbara and my sister Julie running all over the streets of Kampala with me on a daily. Shafik and Patricia, the most organized people I know overseeing the venue and decor. We had a team at church headed by Mr. Kiyingi who made sure we were there on time. This team had sleepless nights trying to make sure our dream day went on smoothly without a hitch. I can’t be more grateful.
Fiona’s Bridal Gown
The story of my gown is a mystery to me as well.. lol. Of course, like any other bride, immediately after my engagement I rushed to the internet to browse through collections of bridal gowns. I landed on a particular gown I really liked and told my fiancé that it’s the one I had to wear. I didn’t know how I was going to ship it though. Edwin said, “babe just check and let me know what we need for you to get what you like.”
I went ahead to read countless stories of brides who had imported gowns, and sad to say, most of them were heartbreaking. I decided to look around here before committing to import. I dropped by Bridal World Uganda one day and OMG, they handed me a replica of my ‘dream gown’ without me even showing them a picture!! I was like if this is not God, I don’t know what it is. I just booked it on the spot. Also, it fit perfectly too as if it was made for me. The challenge was with the veil. I wanted a beaded cathedral veil which they didn’t have. I asked their seamstress whether she could make me one, which she did. One week to the wedding, I went for a fitting, and all was good.
For his suit, I chose the colours and he pretty much got things done himself. I went and helped during the selection of fabrics for their suits. But everything else, he got done himself and his boys. He didn’t really need much of my help. I believed he would look great on the day because I truly trust his sense of style.
