He Found Me Stranded at My School Gate, Got Me Home, and We’ve Been Together Since Then – Bridget & Geoffrey

By  |

Bride: Kalungi Bridget, CEO of Supamamas Uganda

Groom: Samula Geoffrey Dickens, a prominent business man.

Wedding venue: Buziga, Kampala

Wedding date: 5th Dec, 2020

We met in 2005! I was in high school and  Geoffrey had just finished campus. The school was located in Kawempe, which was his home area. This is what happened: he found me stranded and stressed at the school gate because my parents had not yet picked me from school. Although my mum had promised to pick me, it was getting late, and I had run out of patience.

Geoffrey was quick to call his trusted boda guy, who arrived immediately, and took me home in Buziga. He paid all the fees and made sure I arrived safely. The rest is history!

We have been together for 15 years now. We have 4 children; 2 boys (9, 8) and 2 girls (5, 2).

Engagement

We got engaged on 15th November, 2020. I was ill and had an injection to be given to me that evening. I also had a bridal shower of a friend that same day. He encouraged me to attend the bridal shower, that it would help me get better. He also informed me that he would have a committee meeting at home that evening, and preferred to be by himself.

I left home to go to my friend’s bridal shower at 2pm. At around 5pm, he called me to say that the meeting had folded, but his people were considered to stay back to meet me and say hello. He insisted that I head back home, which I agreed to, even when I had to be at the hospital for my injection at that time. I drove back to Kyanja from Acacia, where I was.

Upon arrival, I was blindfolded and asked to guess who was before me. I suprised everyone when I guessed that it was Geoffrey. To my surprise too, when I removed the blindfold, he was on his knee🙈. I had clearly told him I wanted a very simple thing, and indeed it was simple.

I began preparing for the wedding in late September. I looked out for all service providers myself. I involved my family and friends in the last week of November. At that point, I was just handing over and allocating responsibilities. I decided to work alone because it’s less tiresome and you don’t rely on other people’s opinions. It’s easy to make a choice and go through with it, without the intervention of other people. I’m a very simple person, and so I knew what I wanted and yes, everything came out right.
I chose my gomesis myself. I didn’t seek anyone’s opinion. The first gomesi, my sister in-law led me to a shop where I got it. Others I looked at different shops. My cake dress was custom made by
Angi Creations.
