10 Style Trends That Will Be Everywhere at The ASFAs, According to Satisfashion UG

It’s just days to the biggest fashion event of the year, not just in Uganda, but also on the entire continent. This is our answer to the Oscars and the AMVCAs, because why not? My point here is, the excitement level is up there especially for many of us who are waiting to see who will wear what on the red carpet come next Friday.

This year’s theme is ‘The Awakening’. To help nurse this anticipation, we’ve compiled some of the trends we’re convinced will be everywhere that day.

Women

Sequins

Because the theme is ‘The Starz’, it’s a no brainer that a number of guests will opt to sparkle in sequins. The trend is always a go-to when it comes to red carpet style, and we’re confident that the case is not going to be different this Friday.

Tulle

No fabric evokes romance so much like tulle, no wonder it’s a red carpet staple that never gets old. Designers like Fatumah Asha never tire from creating frothy tulle gowns, and according to very reliable sources, she will be outfitting a number of guests at the event. So expect to see lots of guests floating on the red carpet in mountains of tulle.

Emerald Green

There’s no doubt that this colour embodies the Starz, because emerald reminds us of the Emerald jewel. What is more affluent? This colour might not be chosen by everyone, but that’s the point, it’s not for everyone. During the year, fan favourites like Lucy Smize and Vinka have turned to it, not all the time, but when they are ready to stun. Expect a few people to step out in this gem.

Volume

Big is never big enough! Exaggerated shapes, trains and draping cannot miss on fashion’s biggest night. Expect to see the poofiest skirts and extra long sleeves being worn by larger than life personalities.

Crushed Velvet

This is also one for the fashionista’s who want their ensembles to speak for themselves, as this fabric oozes nothing but opulence, and catches the light in a unique way. Expect the fashion forward few to go the route of crushed velvet and elegantly crush it on the red carpet.

Yellow

Yes, we know we talked about this colour sometime back, but hear us out; this colour is having a moment and it’s not about to end soon. The bright, eye catchy, wig snatching colour is bound to make people stop and recognize the wearer, so yellow will be a go-to for many. Expect the sun to come out at night, but no wonder – the sun is the biggest star!

Yes, you read that right. We have seen a trend crop up of men wearing a single earring on one ear. Why not your celeb MCM’s sparkle too?

This is one way to take a simple suit to the next level, and we don’t expect many simple suits at the affair. The highest rising accessory in menswear is hands down a harness, surely it will litter the red carpet.

Man Purses

You’ve seen that as a staple in model scout Joram Muzira’s red carpet looks, but we expect it to spread a little more this time round. Men know how important a bag can be, and no one wants to lose their stuff, right? Man purses will be all the rage.

Belted suits

Men have borrowed a lot of styling trends from women this year, cinching being one of them. Belting has turned out to be a great way to add character to a classic menswear staple.
