Fashion Police: The Mela Red Carpet Premiere and VS Fashion Show Plus A Few Other Style Victims

Guess who got mauled by lions on her way to a movie premiere!

Uganda’s movie industry is making tremendous strides, we need to all be supportive of it. It’s surely headed for big things. That’s not why I’m here though. Nana Kagga‘s Savannah Moon Production premiered yet another webseries titled ‘Mela‘ starring Malaika Nnyanzi, Daniel Omara, Cleopatra Koheirwe, Lesham Kenogo, Marie Corrazon and more.

Of course, this star-studded cast was deserving of a red carpet premiere worth their salt, but I’m not sure this happened. I didn’t score an invite, don’t judge me! Fortunately for you, thanks to the internet I got pictures from the event. Let’s analyse these movie sorry series premiere guests’ fashion choices.

As usual, Expect verdicts such as Flop-ish, fly, hot mess and flop. Hit it!

Nana Kagga

It’s got a very vintage feel to it, which isn’t bad at all, well because it’s Nana’s style anyway. So, it comes off as safe! That said, her makeup and hair is to die for, while those straps look useless, and should have been eliminated altogether.

VERDICT; FLY-ISH

Angela Basset

When bad clothes happen to beautiful people! Such a renowned actress in a visually assaulting outfit! The cut and draping is confusing, the shimmer is unnecessary, and she managed to flash some boob! I’m convinced that what she had underneath is more decent to look at than this terrible outfit.

VERDICT; FLOP

1/10

Gigi Hadid

This is exactly what Gigi Hadid would wear to any event! Nothing to write home about. A choker in another colour, or none at all, would have made it more memorable.

VERDICT; FLY-ISH

7/10

Rita Ora

I often wonder why Rita Ora scores invites to all these high end events! She’s at the Grammys, AMAs, Fashion week and now at the VS show. This, in itself is a bad thing. She’s everywhere, there’s nothing exciting she has to offer, just like this silver piece of fabric she’s wearing. The single strap looks like it doesn’t belong on the dress. I’m bored already!

VERDICT; FLOP

-1/10

Evelyn Lagu

I’m going to be very kind to Ms. Lagu. She was at this event to have fun, not to perform and clearly, not to get photographed. But, that doesn’t save her from this hideous looking skirt. Is it a skirt anyway? Why is it so stiff? I believe it can turn into lots of things just by moving it. This was a complete disaster!

VERDICT; FLOP

-3/10

Martha Kay

Martha Kay went for subtle and undramatic, and won! God bless her! We’re trying to find a bone to pick with her, but all odds are in her favour. Well done!

VERDICT; FLY

10/10

From left: Crystal Newman – I already shared my thoughts on her look here. The extended fabric is unnecessary. If you can, chop it off and save this already beautiful top. The accessorizing was extreme, but she gets away with it.

VERDICT; FLY-ISH

7/10

Jayant Maru – Dapper but very forgettable.

VERDICT; FLY-ISH

6/10

Lesham Kenogo – That gold is suffocating us. In fact, it’s suffocating your pals. Dress, choker, earrings, bangle, makeup…. You need to relax and undo it all.

HOT-MESS

3/10

Kibirango Timothy – Timothy, this is a joke right! That fabric doesn’t photograph well, especially after sitting for a while. But, that’s not the issue. That print is so yesterday. It doesn’t belong in this picture. In fact, you need leave and allow the rest to pose for another photo. This one is in ruins!

VERDICT; FLOP

2/10

Martha Kay returns to prove just how polished she looked!

Mushema Housen

This was almost one of the best looks of the evening, until these shoes happened. His good looks did little to save him from this disaster.

HOT-MESS

4/10

From left: Manuela Mulondo – Cute pleated floral skirt. The colour and detail combined is quite refreshing, considering all the black at the event. Hair and makeup on point.

VERDICT; FLY

10/10

Mathew Nabwiso: He’s a mess, but forgiven! Memorable? Not at all!

VERDICT; FLAT

5/10

Eleanor Nabwiso: Clearly, she was attacked by lions on her way to the event, which mauled her leaving her clothes in tatters. I’m just making this up. What happened? Why is your bra all out, and the bodice in ruins. This is bad!

VERDICT; FLOP

-1/10

Cleopatra Koheirwe

I was waiting for something memorable, here it is! The draping is confusing, but what’s memorable without a bit of intrigue. The shoes are overwhelmed, a pair of clean black sandals would have been a better choice for this dramatic jumpsuit. Thank you for showing up though!

VERDICT; FLY

10/10

Malaika Nnyanzi

Why Ms. Nnyanzi? This is too much for me to take in, and I’m honestly concerned. First of all, that extended fabric is enough to create another outfit, why was it wasted? Both (dress and extended fabric) can live without each other. Now the little black dress, which I believe would have done her more justice, was ruined by those pearl and gold strings all over it. What’s that yellow thing on the shoulder? This is way too much for me to take in.

Deedan

This photo doesn’t do this dress justice! And, it’s not our fault..

VERDICT; FLY-ISH

Fille

All I see is black, yellow and red! The jacket needs to go. The boots need to go too. The rest will be easier to deal with.
