Finding The Perfect Gown
I Found My Dream Gown On The Very First Day I Went Gown-hunting!
You have been dreaming of your perfect wedding gown since you were 5 years old, now the day is finally here and you have no idea where to begin. When it comes to planning a wedding, there’s nothing as ‘time-consuming’, entertaining or even ‘panic-inducing’ for a bride as finding her perfect gown. In this new series on Satisfashion UG Weddings, brides share interesting true stories of how they found the perfect bridal gown.
Precious tied the knot on 1st August, 2020 during lockdown. See her wedding story here, in case you missed it. In this follow up story, she tells us how she found her dream gown.
I found my dream gown on the very first day I set out to search for a gown – it wasn’t even planned at all.
We had gone venue looking, because we thought time was running out, and then, since we were in town, we thought “since we have some time on our hands, let’s look through a few shops for a wedding gown”. Our first stop was a bridal shop on Luwum street. I tried on a gown; I didn’t like it.
I was in the company of my mom and my mom’s sister. We all didn’t like it, but initially, I knew what I wanted in my head. I knew I didn’t want a full lace gown. I wanted something silk or satin – along those lines. When they brought out their silks and satins, I didn’t like any of them either, I didn’t like any of their other laces too.
From there, we went right into Bridal World, which is just next door. When we entered, the attendant quizzed me about what exactly I wanted. I shared my ideas with her; I said I wanted satin/lace gown. She brought out a full range and the first gown that I tried on I totally fell in love with. My mom loved it too and my mom’s sister loved it as well.I loved it!
It was that instant feeling like I fell in love with it right at that point. They say, you should not to go with the first dress you have try on, you have to try on other dresses. So, I tried on other lace dresses but they couldn’t beat my first try. I felt an instant connection with that one so, I was like maybe tomorrow I’ll go to other shops and look through, of which I went to the other shops looking for a satin gown or silk.
I tried on all their silks, I didn’t like them, most of the silks are very simple, in fact, most of them were meant for civil weddings. I didn’t find any that I liked, so I went back to Bridal World and deposited.
I didn’t really go through a hustle because the second shop I went to I found the gown of dreams. I deposited that very day. I called my fiancé and told him, “I’ve seen the dress I want” and he thought it was too early because this happened in January, and the wedding was supposed to hold in about 6 months, but I felt like when you get the dress, then other things move smoothly.
That’s the story of how I got the dress, it was very easy, it wasn’t so much stress, and happened on the very first day I went gown hunting.
My changing dress was from Hers UG.
