When I Reminded Him to Play My Favourite Song, He asked for My Number!

By  |

Victoria Wangeci, Sales Manager at Safaricom PLC, and Samuel Mwangi, advocate, DJ (Advocated DJ) and Presenter at Capital FM Kenya, were brought together by a song she wanted him to play for her. 7 years later, the couple tied the knot on 5th September, 2020, before hosting a swanky reception at Tumaini Gardens in Isiniya.

Their story

Honestly, it’s a cliche story! 7yrs ago, a young girl went to a popular club in Westlands one Saturday night. In the wild of the night, she requested for a song from the DJ. Only for him to delay playing the song until she had to go back and remind him to play it for her. Finally he did, but only if she gave him her number! And the rest they say is history.

The Engagement

Out of our 7 years of friendship, we have dated for 3 years. A year ago, my beautiful husband finally decided to put a ring on it while out of town. I remember, it was such a cold night. We were in a place called Nanyuki, and were laughing and drinking indoors that night because we had to drive to our friend’s function that Saturday morning. So, I’m busy telling him a story after too many shots and mid conversation, he starts saying how he really loves me and wants to spend the rest of his life with me. I’m like “of course babe me too”. And, out of his pocket he fetches out a box and let me tell you Maina, in my head, I’m like why is this guy getting so emotional tonight. I think it took me like 10 minutes to realise what was happening. By the time I did, I had tears for days. I was speechless and honestly I don’t even remember saying yes 🤣🤣🤣!

Planning the wedding

No lie. Planning this wedding was filled with anxiety and fear. When Covid broke out in March we were confused. We didn’t get a grasp of what was happening, no one did! As days and months went by, and seeing the damage covid took in its path, we were fearful and many times we wanted to cancel the wedding. However, with love and support especially from our parents and the strength from my husband, he kept on reassuring us that God got this and there is no way He would have given us this gift if He wouldn’t see us through it. And let me tell you He did.
All the facets and details to the wedding went perfectly. Our suppliers were amazing, our wedding planner House of Dotty, God bless them, did an outstanding job. It was a dream come true I tell you. All I can say, team work makes the dream work. And the best part is, my husband got to Dj at his own wedding how about that! 🤣!
