We hadn’t Seen Many Bridesmaids in White, So We Took On The Challenge – Lillian & James

By  |

The most exciting thing about marriage is spending the rest of your life with your best friend; waking up with them besides you, praying together, doing things together and knowing that what you have is a gift from God – Lillian Ruzindana, owner of Trendy Fitz, an online store, tells Satisfashion UG Weddings.

She and her best friend, James Kakande tied the knot on 20th August, 2020 at Namirembe Cathedral before hosting a lavish scientific bash at Ndere Center.

James couldn’t hold back his tears as the love of his life walked down the aisle to a rendition of Elvis Presley‘s “Can’t help falling in love with you” done by Joel Kisakye. However, it wasn’t just James who was crying, Lillian, who was walked down the aisle by her father, teared too.

James and Lillian met in 2015 in a bar. “I was out with a few friends and so was he,” she recounts with a smile. “They approached us and offered to buy us drinks but we declined. They persisted. So, we came up with a condition. I was contesting for Miss University beauty pageant at the time. The condition was for them to vote for me since voting was being done online. They quickly pulled out their phones and voted. I ended up winning the pageant, maybe as a result of their votes.”

Their relationship blossomed into a great friendship and soon, they were dating.

Engagement

Lillian says that the Holy Spirit whispered to her about the proposal and she had dreams to confirm it. It was not a surprise to her, she was expecting the beautiful day to come, for the lord had approved of their relationship.

However, the wedding planning didn’t go as smoothly. With a pandemic involved, there were lots of challenges.

Planning the wedding

“It took us seven months to plan for both the Gusaba and the wedding. Planning was hard, but what made it smooth was the fact that we knew the service providers we wanted to work with. We are glad that we had our dream wedding despite the small number of guests present. The pandemic was a huge test. We had to consider what if scenarios,” she says.

The best thing about planning an event is having a service provider who understands you. Lillian went for a rustic theme for her Gusaba that the isle of glamour pulled off so beautifully. However, she had always wanted a white wedding, (white for purity). So, she and James sat down with Bloven Decor and Cakes, shared their vision and they delivered.

“Honestly, despite the pressure, Henry and Roger of Bloven kept calm and delivered beyond our expectations,” she recalls.

Gown

Lillian wore a custom made gown from STRAT bridals. “I shared a video of what I desired to wear with Tracy of STRAT Bridals. I asked her if they could order it from Europe and she said, “Lillian, whatever you want can be made. STRAT Bridals really helped me out a lot.

The gown got here like four months to the wedding and when I saw it I cried. It was everything beautiful, the way I imagined it. It was my perfect dress. My matron wore a dress from Beryl Qouture.”

“I am not a fan of too much colour and I wanted my bridesmaids to shine too. Then, I realized that not so many brides let their bridesmaids wear white. So, I took on the challenge.

James and his Bestman wore custom suits from Turkey.

Thankful

“We appreciated every bit of our wedding. Even when anxiety and nerves tried to kick in, we asked the Holy Spirit for grace which kept us going.  My entourage was the best anyone could ever have. They had my back through it all. They didn’t allow anything to stress us.”
