We Got Married Seven Months After Meeting – Hudah & Huzaifah

By  |

Huzaifah Karama and Ndagire Hudah met through a friend, who had recommended him to make a suit for her son! They got married seven months after!

Meeting

I wanted to make a suit for my son. I asked a friend, who recommended someone. She actually took me to his shop and introduced us. I placed my order. Little did I know that I had just met the love of my life!

Shortly after, a friend had a wedding. As I tried to figure out what to wear, I recalled that I had met Huzaifah, who does suits. I immediately texted him and made an appointment to take my measurements. As I picked the suit up, he says, “I think your boyfriend will be happy!”

“I am a single mom,” I tell him.

“I am going to start disturbing you,” he jokes.

Then, he began texting and calling saying hello. We met two days later, and shortly after we were already dating. While I thought it wouldn’t be serious, from the very first date, he seemed so confident. Forexample, he was clear right from the start that he wanted to marry me, something I obviously didn’t believe.

I mean, from his appearance, he looked young. Okay, we are both young. I really didn’t think he was ready to settle down. But, he was a man of his word, and has always been. He was always the serious one in the relationship. He even had plans laid out, forexample, he even asked me to start working with him at his shop. Seven months down the road, and true to his word, we got married.

Proposal

My big sister Shyla, who is in the US, told me that her husband’s friends, who had returned to Uganda but got stuck due to the covid lock down, were going to have a party for basummer at Serena hotel. She asked if I could I represent her.

Apparently, my other sisters were also told about this party!  They advised me to go looking ‘sizzling hot’ because it would be a classy event. I went and brought a dress the day before.

On Saturday morning, I first went to work, then headed to Mona’s Makeup Salon for makeup, before dressing up to go to Serena. When I got there, I called Shyla and informed her that I had arrived, but couldn’t trace the exact location of the party. I asked her to give me their contacts, but she declined to share them, and insisted on calling them herself to pick me up.

I don’t know who she called, but I told her I was headed to the washroom then wait at the reception. As I approached the reception, a lady approached me, introduced herself and led me to the balcony near the fountain. I was welcomed by red balloons, flowers and beautiful décor. Then, I started to see people I know; my aunties and brothers. As I was still trying to let everything sink in, myhusband, who came holding a bouquet of flowers, went on his knee and proposed to me.  Just know, I was so surprised that I laughed hard, so hard that I cried. It was much unexpected. I mean, we work together and spend a lot of time together so he really did a good job keeping the whole thing away from me.

The trust, care and love he showed me made me feel like I had known him forever. I felt comfortable and my heart was at peace around him. I met his parents first, he took me to his mother’s place and they were excited. They opened up to me that he had never brought a girl home!

After a while, when he was ready for Kukyala, he met my dad. He was already talking to my mom, because she isn’t in the country, and she had consented too.

My parents were happy. All they cared about was the religion and family background and the love we had. My dad was happy to meet with him but not as excited as my mother. The kukyala was a beautiful event. Our service providers didn’t disappoint!

Almayah textiles dressed me for the introduction. Huzaifah was dressed by HK-array Suits and they did a wonderful job. Décor was done by Décor events and more.

I love black and lavender, so when I told the decorators, they came up with a lovely black-lavender ensemble. Because the proposal had been a real spectacle, I knew they would do an awesome job even at the Kwanjula.

Mona Faces did my makeup and Am her stylist did my hair and nails. With all that set, we had 100 guests in my father’s compound. Lush treats baked the cake, with vanilla and Oreo as flavors. Then, we had Kenneth Mugabi to entertain our guests alongside the DJ. He really has a glorious voice.

My most memorable part of the function was the father – daughter dance, and the vows my husband said to me while he put the ring on my finger.

The problem with standing in the middle of the room is that you become part of the narrative and the power to tell the story is stripped off you. I pour it out in writing, shaping the river into words.
