Mark Lubowa, one of Kampala’s emerging designers is one of the creatives who were recognized at Zambia’s Zikomo Awards early this month. Lubowa, whose design brand is ‘Maarqluowa‘, received two awards; Best Male Fashionista in Africa and Best Fashion Designer in Africa. He was awarded for his striking new collection ‘Social Equilibrium’, which was presented at the event.
“The collection is ‘blood-themed’ in support of peace, equality and unity around the world regardless of gender, race and nationality, ” he says. About the inspiration for the collection he says, “it’s always we creatives that give life to this beautiful world.”
Zikomo awards shines a spotlight on Africans in the fields of fashion, music, humanitarian work, who are using their work to help the underprivileged. The event is held annually in Lusaka, Zambia.
