Finding The Perfect Gown

Two Months to My Wedding, I Enrolled For a Tailoring Course Before I Designed My Dream Bridal Gown!

You have been dreaming of your perfect wedding gown since you were 5 years old,  now the day is finally here and you have no idea where to begin. When it comes to planning a wedding, there’s nothing as ‘time-consuming’, entertaining or even ‘panic-inducing’ for a bride as finding her perfect gown. In this new series on Satisfashion UG Weddings, brides share interesting true stories of how they found the perfect bridal gown

Rose Matovu, a businesswoman, had her dream wedding, in her dream gown, which she created. She and her husband Daniel tied the knot on 15th August, 2020 at Watoto church, before hosting a reception at Hot Springs Villa Hotel Entebbe.

From when I was a child, my dream has always been to design my own wedding gown. So, when I got engaged, I realized that it was time to do something about it. A few months to my wedding, I enrolled for a tailoring course – crazy right? Interestingly, at the end of the course, I was good to go. I started with practicing making different designs for myself, and in the process I got better.

I wanted a simple Cinderella dress but with fabulous fabric. I didn’t want so much happening around the dress. I sent for the fabric I wanted from China because I didn’t want to move up and down around town, without contacts. Two months to the big day I started designing, and I was done in two weeks.

Of course, I was a bit scared and ordered for extra material just in case I messed up. Another challenge was that I ordered for less lace. It was hard finding the exact lace matching the one I had shipped in from China. I figured it out by creating a new design, with the new lace under it.

You would wonder how I got all that time and patience to design and tailor a gown amid the chaos of preparing the wedding! Well, I thank God and my husband plus the committee that made sure everything was in place. I would only be consulted and they made sure that what we wanted was done. I didn’t ever move up and down during the wedding preparations. I didn’t run mad with service providers – I had a stress free event.

I enjoyed the process of creating my gown. I couldn’t be more proud of myself. It was a dream come true!
