This Collection By Fashion Brand Emmy Kasbit Is A Retrospective Of Timeless Signature Styles

Emmy Kasbit earlier this year released its FW22 collection tagged Retrospect. This collection delves into the deeply rooted Igbo Age Grade system. This is an ancient and sacred institution that is very integral in Eastern Nigeria.

Hand-woven textile innovation and timeless design concepts remain a core value at EmmyKasbit as the brand continues to protect its commitment to sustainability with a collection beautifully crafted with the true purpose of cultural preservation and enhancement of liberty.

In line with the brand’s ethos of referencing past historical events and traditions, Emmanuel delves into the deeply rooted Igbo age-grade system. This is an ancient and sacred institution that is very integral to the Eastern region of Nigeria, popularly known as ‘Igboland’.

In the Igboland, the colour code is an element that differentiates one age group from another. Shades of orange, brown and black are predominant colours in this design aesthetics and the scallop design pattern has been incorporated and adopted from laces the regals wore to meetings.

The shapes are symbolic, bold and redefining. Culture has been rebirthed and traditions remain relevant as the collection comprises tailored Lace-Akwete structured overcoats, layered patterns, fringed hemline halter neck dresses and more.
