“Three types of brides served as his starting point this season: classicists who want something regal, bohemians searching for something airy, and seductresses for whom the traditional white dress may be a bit too tame. The categories conveniently overlapped with Shoji’s core audience, and he delivered a range of accessible gowns for them with lots of his signature sequins.
The back-to-basics approach is sure to delight his die-hard fans, but the collection wasn’t a retread. New silhouettes and details—like an elegant tea-length dress and a gown with transparent panels—added interest, ditto the dress layered with multicolored tulle in shades of cream and blush. As always, there was plenty of glitz, but new iridescent embroideries and matte sequins added a fresh verve.” – Janelle Okwodu
