The Uganda Film Festival took place yesterday, June 7th. This annual event, organized by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), celebrates excellence in the film industry through workshops, film screenings, and other activities.
As is the norm, awards are handed out for outstanding films in both the technical and acting fields. This year, about 307 films were submitted, though less than a quarter of these walked away with nominations.
About 50 films are spread across the 25 categories, and unlike in past years, when many filmmakers prioritized making films in English, a good number of films in the mix this year are in indigenous languages.
Highlighting the evening were SatisfashionUg’s own cover stars for our May 2024 issue, Pelly Peninnah Nampanga and Agume Mark. Pelly Peninnah Nampanga won the Best Actress award in a feature film, receiving a cash prize of 5 million shillings. Agume Mark won for, “The Last Shoemaker,” in the best short film category the award for Best Short Film also came with a cash prize of 5 million shillings.
