Satisfashion UG’s Woman Crush Today Is Catherine Namara

'A trail blazer'

Catherine Namara is an alumna of the G4G STEM cohort in Uganda. She is telecommunications engineer with a passion for the sustainability of projects and making the world a better place through sustainable development.

Namara holds a certification in Happiness Coaching & Sustainable Development Goals from Cornell University’s women entrepreneurship program, a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Makerere University plus a Master’s degree in Project Planning & Management with an additional distinction for her excellent research on Information Technology and Communications (ICT) and Sustainable development.

Coming from a village that was not connected to the power grid, Namara had no mobile phone when she was joining secondary school and this motivated her to do electrical engineering to leave no one behind.

Because of her passion for leaving no one behind and mission to reduce the attrition rate of women and girls in Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) industries, Catherine joined Project Girls for Girls as a mentor and became the leader of the STEM cohort.

“There are so many challenges that present learning opportunities. With changing technology, one must be agile, when you realize you are missing opportunities because of a skill, go out and get it. Technology is fascinating and fast-changing. You have to be curious and ready to learn, unlearn and relearn. It is not enough to be brilliant academically; networking in such a way that you identify mentors, coaches and sponsors will help you get ahead.” Namara says in an interview with Project girl for girl.

Namara is currently the CEO of Nsiima Everyday, a business anchored on the certainty that the world is abundant and therefore everyone deserves to live a happy fulfilled life. Using simple tools, Nsiima Everyday is building a community of daily gratitude and intentional goal setting. She is also the Vice President of the Board of directors of Casey Foundation Africa, an NGO that is fighting child marriages.
