Satisfashion UG’s 12 Best Dressed Guests at The Miss Uganda 2019 Grand Finale

And why..

The grand finale of Miss Uganda 2019 held last Friday at Sheraton Kampala Hotel. Oliver Nakakande, a 24-year-old student of Business Management was crowned winner of the highly coveted crown.

As usual, celebrities, fashionistas and pageant enthusiasts stepped out in pomp and colour to walk the red carpet in style. You probably spent a huge chunk of the weekend browsing through and critiquing looks we shared on our social media platforms.

Because we’re Satisfashion UG, here is our list of the best looks of the evening. Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Natasha Sinayobye wearing Ipigogo House of Fashion

Hassan: Natasha finally burst out of her shell, we’ve known her for wearing gowns with clean lines or a mermaid silhouette almost all the time. This was her stepping out of her comfort zone. The feather-filled bodice and shimmery skirt combination plus ‘no-makeup’ makeup was a huge risk which worked in her favour.

Lyn: the look was whimsical, unique. No one else showed up like her and it was refreshing to see the feathery lightness of it all. The fact that she wore minimal makeup made it all the more youthful and playful.

Judith Heard wearing Kai’s Divo Collection

Hassan: This gown reminds of me what she wore to the 2017 ASFAs, another dramatic gown which didn’t receive as much attention as it deserved. Same thing here. The skirt is tiered and pleated while the bodice features one long sleeve with intricate beading. The combination of it all is interesting.

Lyn: To me this dress was a dream. The emerald shade of the fabric went so well with her skin and the silhouette was dramatic, show stopping. I loved the balance of the sleeves with one going longer than the other arm, it kept it interesting.

Peace Muhindo

Hassan: This is a beautiful gown worn by someone who knows a thing or two about how to carry herself with poise. Perfect dress for a pageant event, worn by a pageant winner (because of her tiara).

Lyn: This look made me so happy. She looked like a Disney Princess to me, with the tiara and the ball gown with the A-line silhouette.  She didn’t try to overcomplicate things, which I loved.

Chandia Dorothy wearing Fatumah Asha

Hassan: This gown was stunning; impeccable finishing and detail. I love the paper wrap detail on the bodice. The fabric is feathered, everything that comes with feathers excites me. Dorothy wore it with so much grace, that you almost thought it’s an extension of her.

Lyn: She did not come to play! From the makeup and hair to the fuzzy dress, she nailed it. The structure of her dress WENT THERE and she wasn’t afraid to work it. From the colour to the texture and her banging body, it was a match made in fashion heaven.

Miss Deedan wearing Kai’s Divo Collection

Hassan: My jaw dropped when I saw Deedan in this metallic green pantsuit. She looked really comfortable, it’s evident that she was in her full element. I also love that the shimmer on it is muted down and controlled. A lot of times shimmer veers off to cheap so easily. This is modern and powerful.

Lyn: I love her in some pants, she looked edgy in the suit, and I especially loved the deep v and the body chain it was paired with. Only she could pull it off like that. Her hair gave me Janelle Monae vibes, but she made it all her own.

Anita Fabiola wearing Beryl Qouture

Hassan: This dress is the definition of dramatic, the good dramatic though. In my opinion, besides Fabiola, the side split and shoulder draping are the other stars that turned this look into a ‘lewk’.

Lyn: I especially loved the edginess of the metallic hint it had, and the structure around the slit was fierce! The detail of the arm also drew the eye across her décolletage and the fact that she didn’t pile on the makeup made it all the more appealing.

Quinn Abenakyo wearing Tina Brad

Hassan: You never get it wrong in red. This to me was one of the highlights of the evening. Abenakyo in this gigantic ball gown was the perfect way to say adieu to her very colourful reign as Miss Uganda.

Lyn: Her red dress was a lovely choice, regal even. The detail on the gown made it interesting to look at you have to zoom into the image to see it all. This is someone the incoming beauty queens can look up!

Miss World 2018 Vanessa Ponce wearing Tina Brad

Hassan: The makers of this gown sought inspiration from our ‘Busuuti’. See the pointed shoulders, the full overskirt together with the feather detail on the bodice. Stunning and equally iconic.

Lyn: I won’t mention her icy blue crown because, I need it! But this champagne dress was a sight for sore eyes.

Joram Muzira styled by Abryanz Collection

Hassan: Arguably the best dressed gentleman of the evening. Muzira looked dapper in this zigzag jacquard print jacket playfully accessorized with an Ankara bowtie.

Lyn: Joram went all out with letting his dreads down to one side and the detail on his blazer. The unexpected touch of the Ankara bowtie was a pairing that worked beautifully.

Doreen Mirembe in Ganyana Fashion

Lyn: I love love loved the soft pink gown with the flowers all over it. She looked sweet and quintessentially feminine in this look.

Jim The Japher and Owen Byamukama

Lyn: These guys came through and made anyone who appreciates fashion proud. They both wore orange hues with Owen choosing to go for a two tone look with his. It was a little jarring to me, the complementary colours were both so saturated that I might not have responded the way it meant to be. Jim left it all in the playing field especially with the accessories he chose for the look. The scarf in his neck, the pins at the lapels, as well as the unexpected textured shoe worked well together.

Sheila Gashumba in Beryl Qouture

Hassan: You need to zoom into the photo to marvel at all the detail in its entirety. It starts as a mini dress on one side with droopings all over it, a cutout on the bodice and little feathers going about. On the other side it’s a sequined floor-grazing gown. I feel like the designer catered to their needs whilst keeping Sheila’s aesthetic in mind. The combination is whimsical and unexpected.

Lyn: I feel like there was a lot to look at on her dress. Business on the right hand, party on the left hand look was interesting and almost told a story as you went along it. I loved the beading along the shorter side of the dress made it such a glitzy look and the hints of skin was in line with Sheila’s aesthetic.
