SANKOFA: Azawi’s Most Personal Album Could Be Her Best Yet!

The album provides those laidback, Afro vibes in abundance

On Independence Day this week, Azawi gifted her much anticipated second studio album, Sankofa, to Uganda and the rest of the world! And, since its release, 13 of the tracks on the album have debuted on Apple Music’s Top 100, with the highest, Summer Bae ft. Konshens, at 3, and several others in the Top 10.

The16-track star-studded album provides those laidback, Afro vibes in abundance. Artists such as Konshens, Elijah Kitaka, Mike Kayihura, Bensoul are featured on the album. It also boasts collaborations from producers such as Artin, Steve Keys, Bangar Boi and Groovy World.

While introducing the album, Azawi shared a spoken word piece that sighted heritage, history, and our past identities, as kings and queens as her inspiration for the album. With it, she hopes that we can reconcile our past, present and the part that it plays in the future.

‘Sankofa’ is receiving raving reviews online, and it’s only right to say that it could be her best yet. This, of course, gives you more reason to keep it on repeat ahead of the singer’s concert slated for October 20th at Serena Hotel Kampala.
