Pia Pounds Kicks Off 2022 With ‘Wuuba’, a High-octane Party Anthem

By  |

2021 might have been Pia Pounds’ best year yet, but 2022 is already looking like it might be so much more. The Satisfashion UG cover girl released visuals for her new party anthem titled ‘WUUBA’, to shake things up for 2022. By press time, the video is number 11 on Youtube’s Trending Uganda chart.

Directed by Swangz Avenue’s Marvin Musoke, the maker of Slick Stuart & Roja‘s ‘Sunday’, ‘Wuuba‘ is a beautiful visual display of celebration, dance and fashion. Pia Pounds unsurprisingly appears in a slew of stunning looks, the standout for me (even when it got little screen time) being a printed Fatumahasha gown. Being a victory song, there’s lots of high energy dancing done by a group of dancers led by celebrity choreographer Dancemamweta.

“Pia knows exactly what her fans want, a dancehall song in which they can feel like themselves, unapologetically,” wrote Matooke Republic in a review of the song. Indeed, she has found her niche, and this being the time when Uganda’s party scene gets flagged open after 2 years of lockdown, ‘Wuuba’ is definitely going to be the party anthem of the moment.

Lyrics to the song include catchy phrases like “tugubakuba” (we hit them hard), “Spend All my Money to buy Rice”, a ghetto child survival code and “Tuva Musuuka” (the early bird catches the worm) and more.

In her Satisfashion UG cover story, the singer described the song as, “A story for everything I have gone through and everything my fans have experienced.” Clearly, Pia Pounds, we your fans have gone through a lot, ‘Wuuba’ is exactly what we needed.
