Naomi Campbell will receive the CFDA’s Fashion Icon Award at this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards. She joins a list of past recipients that includes superstars Beyonce Knowles, Johnny Depp and Rihanna.
“It is truly an honour to be recognized by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon award,” Campbell told the CFDA. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers that have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”
Campbell has appeared on over 500 magazine covers throughout her long and illustrious career. She was the first black model on the cover of Time and French Vogue, and she was one of the original five supermodels who appeared in George Michael’s 1990 “Freedom” music video.
Each June, the international fashion community honours the best and brightest in American design at the CFDA Fashion Awards.
