Backstory

Patrice and I met in November 2017. It was at a wedding launch of a mutual friend. We interacted freely, and to our surprise, we learned that we are from the same village in Kanungu district. This brought us together and we’ve not been apart since.

Engagement

Well, usually when we see ‘engagement’ we think about a man going down on one knee to propose. It wasn’t the same case for us. Patrice didn’t propose to me the English way because traditionally, the day you officially introduce your man to your parents, that’s when he engages you. This vividly communicates that he’s waiting on you after seeking your parents’ consent for a hand in marriage. Also, this idea of a man proposing to you and nothing changes for the next two years is horrible!

Traditional wedding

This was interesting because we hail from the same village. If there were any technicalities and difficulties, they were already known to us. Our invited guests occasionally collided on the way because we know and relate with the same people. Putting my Kuhingira together was a collective effort.

The black point of this event was accessing quality service providers. Also, the fact that Kuhingira and white wedding were a week apart. This put some pressure on the team. Kanungu district’s service sector is only in its growth stage, and so it was quite hectic to get standard services. Can you believe that Lush Cakes transported my wedding cake from Kansanga straight to Kanungu?

Decoration service providers weren’t spared from the same. If only the distance was shorter, our decoration would have been three times better. Transportation of delicate furniture on bumpy roads was too risky. In fact, most decorators shunned me because they couldn’t take the risk. Gladly, New Trend Decor did magic for us.

David Lutalo, as well, served us vibes all day and wrapped up my Kuhingira with all the memories I wanted to make.

With the selflessness of my husband, our friends and family, we successfully had an amazing event.

White wedding

Off the Kuhingira pressure, we travelled back on Monday to fully prepare for the white wedding. Majorly most of it was already set. We were clearing service providers and finalizing church arrangements. We had the best service providers since our function was just across and around the city.

Decor and theme colours

I fully took these on. Patrice availed what he could afford on each item and I had to go by that. With colour and theme, I am a red lover. I tried red on my Kukyala but got disappointed. It was too bright and overshadowed us so I cancelled it there and then. Nothing beats white and gold. The two colours represent class and are very calm. That’s exactly what I chose to go with, without forgetting a light shade of sky blue.

Gown

My gown was a special one. I fell in love with the design about a year ago and saved it. When I tried to source a similar option here in Uganda, nothing came close. I decided to have it custom made in Turkey.

But guess what, just about a week to the wedding, the gown was not yet ready. Apparently, the design house got the dates wrong. So, the gown arrived the morning of my wedding day. I could hardly sleep the night before. I was awake all night thinking about what would happen next if it didn’t arrive. Gladly it arrived at 7am plus the fitting was just perfect. I have zero regrets choosing the gown, it was my dream gown.
