There are so many reasons we won’t stop obsessing over Maureen Rutabingwa a.k.a MoRoots’ new music video for her super powerful song ‘My Woman Cries’. To start with, the video is a stunning production which features a number of famous women such as Mildred Apenyo, Sandra Suubi and Solome Basuuta. And above it all, there’s also a lot of great fashion.
In the riveting Ace Daniels directed video, MoRoots dons a sequined SKP by Sheba Kassami Pemba dress which features a chiffon cape and an off-the-shoulder cut. The neo-soul singer makes the most of the cape detail almost getting off her feet because it literally gave her wings.
She later changes into a lace kaftan also from the design house. The stunning creations were fully in sync with the monochrome colour palette of the production. They also accentuated her subtle makeup and short rugged hair, considering she’s a woman crying for help.
Other stand out looks include Mildred Apenyo’s black romper, which gave the feminist power to fight viciously to the point that she broke a sweat. Sandra Suubi’s turtleneck kaftan and towering braids gave her a regal look albeit trying to make signals seeking for help. Solome Basuuta went for a sassier look, carrying a fur throw over. However, shortly after, the throw over was off to the ground.
There’s a lot of tears, hair flying in the air, sweat and fighting in the production that it’s impossible to not pay attention to ‘My Woman She Cries’.
‘My Woman She Cries’ is the second song off MoRoots’ upcoming album From the Sun.
“The song is a rallying cry for my country and the world to take a moment and pay attention to the plight of the woman,” she took to her social platforms to share.
“My hope is that through these words, my woman will find a voice to confront the sources of her tears and fears, and that every time it plays on the radio or on television, people will open their eyes to the change that needs to happen,” she continued.
Sheba Kassami Pemba, the creative director of the SKP brand couldn’t help share how thrilled she was to have been part of the project.
““I’m always inspired by the power of women in transforming a nation,” she explains. “This project is just the perfect example of what happens when women choose to come together to make something happen.”
The SKP brand was established with a commitment to create beautiful clothing with one of a kind intricate details which imbue class, elegance and sophistication. However, this time the brand went ahead to help MoRoots bring her creative vision to life.
This was the singer’s directional debut.
